EDISON, N.J. – The MAAC has revealed the 2013-14 Women's Basketball Preseason Second Team, as selected by the league's 11 coaches. Junior Jasmine Martin (Sicklerville, N.J.) and senior Brittany McQuain (Independence, Mo.) were two of the five members selected as second teamers.
The Bobcats are coming off their best season in school history and Martin and McQuain were key components in a season that saw the Bobcats go 30-3 overall, win a conference championship, and the team's first ever appearance in the NCAA tournament. Quinnipiac also won an NCAA statistical award evidenced by an 8.55 turnover margin. The Bobcats embark on a new challenge as they enter their inaugural season in the MAAC.
Jasmine Martin was named a 2012-13 All NEC Third Teamer. Martin was second on the team with 12.9 points per game and was third on the team with 1.9 steals per game last season. Martin returns to the Bobcats after leading the team with 51 three pointers last season. Martin scored 425 points which puts her at 773 in just two seasons. Martin remains 227 points away from 1,000 career points, but if she remains at her normal pace she will be able to reach the 1,000 point milestone sometime this season.
Brittany McQuain returns for her senior season after a very dominating season down low for the Bobcats. McQuain was named 2013 NEC Tournament MVP and All-NEC Second Team last season. She led the Bobcats with 8.3 rebounds per game and was third on the Bobcats with 11.2 points per game last season. McQuain also totaled the second most minutes last season playing 26.8 minutes per game. Through her first three seasons McQuain has scored 982 career points putting her 18 points away from 1,000 for her career.
The Bobcats open their season on Friday, Nov. 8, when they face North Carolina A&T in the opening round of the preseason WNIT. Tipoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. at the TD Bank Sports Center in Hamden, Conn.
