WALLINGFORD, Conn. – Members of the Northeast Conference Championship women's basketball team took a short trip to Wallingford on Friday, May 31 to interact with youngsters at E.C. Stevens School as part of Quinnipiac's Positive Play initiative. Four student-athletes and staff participated in Field Day at the school, which included friendly sporting activities throughout the afternoon.
Nikoline Ostergaard (Vedbaek, Denmark), Adily Martucci (Waterford, Conn.), Maria Napolitano (Cincinnati, Ohio) and Katie Carroll (Westlake, Ohio) all took part in indoor/outdoor activities with kindergarten, first and second graders. Along with many other games, they played bean toss, water games, danced with the children and did some rock climbing on the wall in the gymnasium as well. After that, the student-athletes began teaching the fundamentals of shooting a basketball and telling stories about their careers. Boomer the Bobcat was also in attendance.
"Today was really fun, not only for the children but for us as well," said junior forward Nikoline Ostergaard. "Field Day is a great initiative and we were happy to be a part of it. The kids were so well-behaved and seemed to have a great time while being active at the same time. We are looking forward to going back to E.C. Stevens soon."
