HAMDEN, Conn. – Quinnipiac University women's basketball head coach Tricia Fabbri added another piece of hardware to her extensive collection on Tuesday morning, as the 2013 NEC Coach of the Year accepted the "Sterling Spirit Award" at the 10th annual celebrity breakfast at Vazzano's Four Seasons in Stratford. The award is given to those individuals who contribute to the positive spirit of sports in Connecticut.
The all-time winningest coach in Quinnipiac women's basketball history, Fabbri recently completed her 18th season on the Bobcats' sideline and upped her career total to 273 victories. In 2012-13, Fabbri guided the Bobcats to their most accomplished season in Quinnipiac history, adding to an impressive resume at the helm of the women's basketball program. This past year marked a season of firsts for the Quinnipiac women's basketball program, which featured its first Northeast Conference Championship title. Fabbri led the Bobcats to their first 30-win season in program history, also an NEC first as well, which included a perfect 18-0 in the regular season. Named 2013 Coach of the Year, Fabbri and the Bobcats made their third national postseason appearance with a bid to the NCAA Tournament as the No. 13 seed in the Bridgeport Region.
This year's guest speaker was three-time Emmy Award Winner Bob Lorenz, the YES Network's primary anchor and host of the New Yankees and New Jersey Nets pre-and post-game shows. Noah Finz, sports director of News 8, served as program emcee.
