HAMDEN, Conn.-Junior Brittany McQuain (Independence, Mo.) of the Quinnipiac University women's basketball team was named the Northeast Conference Player of the Week, announced on Tuesday February 20, 2013. McQuain helped the Bobcats to two straight victories over NEC opponents Saint Francis University and Robert Morris, collecting double-figures in each game.
McQuain produced back-to-back prime performances as Quinnipiac became the first team to clinch a NEC Tournament berth. The junior forward posted a double-double to propel the Bobcats past Saint Francis (PA) and logged her fifth 20-point game of the season in a win over Robert Morris two days later. Leading the way as the Bobcats remained undefeated in NEC play, McQuain averaged 16.0 points and 10.5 rebounds per game and shot a stellar 61 percent from the field. The Missouri native scored 32 points in 55 minutes of action, averaging 1.4 points per field goal attempt.
McQuain dominated the glass in the come-from-behind win over Saint Francis, finishing with 11 points, 14 rebounds and two steals for her sixth double-double of the season. The 5-foot-11 post player poured in 21 points over 25 minutes of action against Robert Morris. She also logged seven rebounds and a pair of blocks in the 60-46 victory that extended the Bobcats win streak to 14 games in a row and upped their overall record to a league-best 22-2. McQuain, who also earned Choice Hotels Player of the Week honors back on Jan. 15, averages 11.8 points and a team-high 8.3 rebounds per contest.
The Bobcats return to action on Wednesday night with a home contest against Monmouth University. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. at the TD Bank Sports Center.
