HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac women's basketball team was ranked 13th in the most recent College Insider Mid-Major Poll, announced on Tuesday, January 29, 2013 by coaches on the committee. The Bobcats, 17-2 overall and 8-0 in the NEC, are off to their best start in program history.
On Saturday, the Bobcats defeated Fairleigh Dickinson, 66-39, at the TD Bank Sports Center. Junior Camryn Warner (Keene, N.H.) paced the Bobcats offense with a career-high 15 points, going 6-of-12 from the floor, grabbed 11 rebounds and had three blocks for her second career double-double. Jasmine Martin (Sicklerville, N.J.) and Felicia Barron (Springfield, Mass.) joined Warner in double-figures with 16 and 10 points, respectively, as Martin extended her streak with 10 points or more to 13 straight games. Barron added two steals and dished out a team-high five assists, while Brittany McQuain (Independence, Mo.) and Nikoline Ostergaard (Vedbaek, Denmark) each finished with seven points and six rebounds.
On Monday, Quinnipiac completed a home-weekend sweep with an 82-73 victory over CCSU at the Bank. Barron played a large role in the outcome, collecting a game-high 25 points for her fourth 20-point game of the season. Barron went 10-of-19 from the floor, grabbed three rebounds and dished out a pair of helpers. In addition to Barron, the Bobcats featured nine other players in the scoring column. Martin chipped in with nine points, Ellen Cannon (West Chester, Pa.) added eight, and Lisa Lebak (Robbinsville, N.J.), McQuain and Ostergaard all finished with seven points.
The College Insider Mid-Major poll featured Delaware in the top slot, taking 28 first place votes. Green Bay claimed second, the Bulldogs of Gonzaga garnered third, while Chattanooga and Princeton rounded out the top five. Other noteworthy teams include Hartford (Honorable Mention) who defeated the Bobcats on Dec. 16th, and James Madison (Honorable Mention), who the Bobcats defeated in their season-opener.
The Bobcats are back in action on Saturday afternoon at Wagner College in Staten Island, N.Y. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the Spiro Sports Center.
