MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – The Quinnipiac women's basketball team added another mark to the win column on Saturday evening after they defeated Robert Morris 61-52, at the Charles L. Sewall Center. Three players hit double figures as the Bobcats improve to 14-2 overall, including a 5-0 mark in NEC competition as they continue the program's best start since the 2007-08 campaign.
Leading the Bobcats down the stretch was senior guard Felicia Barron (Springfield, Mass.) with 14 points and seven steals as she finished six-of-10 from the field. Junior Brittany McQuain (Independence, Mo.) mirrored Barron's efforts with 14 points and seven rebounds for the Bobcats. Sophomore guard Jasmine Martin (Sicklerville, N.J) added 11 points.
Quinnipiac started the first half quiet as Nikoline Ostergaard (Vabaek, Denmark) sparked a 9-1, run with 5:52 left to play in the first half. Ostergaard went three of five from the floor in the first half, concluding the game with seven points. Martin led the Bobcats in the first half with eight points, capped by a three pointer at the buzzer going into halftime to give Quinnipiac a 36-28 lead.
Coming out of the locker room, Barron caught fire in the second half with 10 of her 14 points coming in the stanza. Sophomore point guard Gillian Abshire (Washington, D.C.) also garnered seven assists with only one turnover.
After holding the Colonials scoreless in the first five minutes of the second half, the Bobcats held strong as the action picked up down stretch. Junior Camryn Warner (Keene, N.H.) collected eight points and a season high of eight rebounds. Warner went 3 of 4 from the field including netting a basket from behind the arc to put Quinnipiac up 55-48, with 5:17 left to play.
Quinnipiac's defense was relentless all game, forcing 28 RMU turnovers which resulted in 29 points on the other end. The Bobcats also held the Colonials to 32.8 percent from the floor and gathered a 24-14 edge in the paint.
Three players from Robert Morris went on to score double figures, Ashley Ravelli led the Colonials in scoring with 18 points. While the team's leading scorer Artemis Spanou collected her 13th double- double on the season with 14 points and 20 rebounds. Lou Mataly also collected 12 points.
Quinnipiac leads the all-time record between the two programs 15-10 overall, with the Bobcats going 2-3 in the last five meetings.
The Bobcats will continue their 5-0 start in the NEC Conference when they take to the hardwood Monday Evening against second ranked St. Francis Pa. Tip-off is at 7 p.m. at DeGol Arena in Loretta, Pa. The Red Flash are off to a 9-7 start and is 4-1 in NEC action.
