Women’s Basketball Visits Local New Haven Schools

HAMDEN, Conn. – Members of the Quinnipiac University women's basketball team recently enjoyed a trip to four of the public schools in New Haven - Barnard, Brennan, Edgewood, and Fair Haven - as part of QU's Positive Play Initiative, designed to encourage community service by Quinnipiac's student-athletes, coaches and staff.

The coaches and players visited the elementary and middle schools over a two day period on Thursday, Jan 10, and most recently on Thursday, Jan. 17.  With the visit, athletes and coaches spoke to students about the importance of a strong education, pursuing their dreams with hard work and a positive attitude, and promoting a healthy lifestyle.

"The coaches and players enjoy making our annual trip to visit the children in the New Haven public schools," said women's basketball head coach Tricia Fabbri.  "This year was no different, we visited four different elementary schools.  It was a great opportunity for all of us to share our goals, dreams and how we strive to achieve them by working hard, being a good teammate to one another while stressing the important role of education in everything we do! It's just an awesome experience spending time listening to them - hearing how they want to achieve too!"

Members of the squad split into two groups and met with over 200 students in a course of two days.  The QU student-athletes also spoke about their experiences as a Division-I student athlete and shared their individual stories about their journey to Quinnipiac and what their goals are beyond graduating and playing for the Bobcats. The players even signed autographs for the children during their mentor session.

The Bobcats travel to Pennsylvania this weekend as they will take on the Robert Morris Colonials on Sunday, Jan. 19, at the Charles L. Sewall Center in Moon Township, Pa.  Tip-off is set for 1 p.m.  The Colonials are currently 3-11 overall and 2-1 in NEC action.
