Amherst, Mass. – Senior Felicia Barron (Springfield, Mass.), junior Brittany McQuain (Independence, Mo.), and sophomore Gillian Abshire (Washington, D.C.) led Quinnipiac to a 81-72 win against Massachusetts. The trio combined for 46 of Quinnipiac's 81 points in the non-conference victory.  accounting for over half of Quinnipiac's final points against the University of Massachusetts. The Bobcats' 2-0 start drops Massachusetts to 1-2 on their early season. The win results in Quinnipiac's best start since the 2008 season.

Quinnipiac benefitted from the homecoming for Barron, a native of Springfield, Mass., who for a second consecutive game led the team with 26 points, three steals and eight rebounds. Barron was powered by a 12-for-13 showing at the foul line, including 11-12 in the second half alone. McQuain finished with 10 points, 8 boards and three steals while also shooting 8-for-10 at the free throw line.  Abshire added a career-high of 10 points, with four rebounds, three assists and three steals for Quinnipiac.

Sophomore forward Samantha Guastella (Red Bank, N.J.) continued to be a dominant force from the perimeter draining 2-of-3 from long range on her way to an eight point night. Guastella finished with 8 points, five rebounds, two assists and two blocks.  The first half also provided quality minutes for junior Ellen Cannon (West Chester, Pa.) and sophomores Jasmine Martin (Sicklerville, N.J.) and Shana Earle (South Orange, N.J.)  as the Bobcats head into the lockerroom at the half with a 40-35 lead.

UMass was led by freshman Rashida Timbilla and senior Jasmine Watson with 17 points apiece. Despite being outrebounded, 51-36, Quinnipiac countered with an impressive 24-for-30 showing at the free throw line. In addition, Quinnipiac forced 25 turnovers.
