Women's Basketball Outlasts Army, 54-51

West Point, N.Y. – The Quinnipiac University women's basketball team defeated Patriot League foe Army, 54-51, on Friday night at the Christl Arena for its fourth-consecutive win. With the victory, the Bobcats improve to 9-3 on the year, while the Black Knights fall to 6-7 overall.

Junior Felicia Barron (Springfield, Mass.) led the Bobcats with 13 points, while sophomore Brittany McQuain (Independence, Mo.) also posted double-figures with 10 points. Freshman Nikoline Ostergaard (Vedbaek, Denmark) registered a career-high seven points in the outing. Army's Jen Hazlett led the game with 21 total points.

For the second straight game, Quinnipiac stayed ahead of its opponent for the entire contest. Overall, the Bobcats scored 15 points off 16 turnovers and recorded 10 second-chance points, while out-rebounding the Black Knights, 44-36.

The Bobcats' McQuain and Barron combined for the first five points of the night. Quinnipiac opened the first half with a 13-6 run as senior Kari Goodchild (Van Horne, Iowa) finished a shot from three-point range with 11 minutes on the clock.

After Ostergaard scored her first three-pointer of the season with four minutes to play, Barron added two points to give the Bobcats a 13-point lead, their largest of the game, 27-14, with two minutes remaining.

The Black Knights answered with a 6-0 run in the final two minutes to narrow the gap, but freshman Jasmine Martin (Sicklerville, N.J.) drained a shot from behind the arc to beat the buzzer and send the Bobcats into the locker room ahead, 30-20.

Army opened the first five minutes of the second stanza with a 6-0 run, but Quinnipiac responded with a 6-1 run to take a 36-27 lead with 11 minutes to play.

The Bobcats continued to stay ahead of the Black Knights and found themselves ahead by 10 points, 44-34, with 7:17 on the clock. In the next five minutes, Army went on a 13-4 run to come within one point of Quinnipiac, 48-47.

Both teams each compiled four points from the free-throw line in the last two minutes of play. After Barron finished a layup at 2:30, Army's Hazlett scored two free throws at the two-minute mark. The Bobcats and the Black Knights continued to battle as both added two points from the charity stripe. McQuain would add the final two points of the game with 13 seconds left to give the Bobcats the 54-51 victory.

The Bobcats return to action when they host their final non-conference game of the season against St. Joseph's on Tuesday, Jan. 3 at 7 p.m. at the TD Bank Sports Center in Hamden, Conn.
