Bobcats Return Home
The Quinnipiac women’s basketball team (3-2, 0-0 NEC) will host Massachusetts (1-4, 0-0 A-10) on Tuesday, Nov. 29 at 7 p.m. at the TD Bank Sports Center in Hamden, Conn. The Bobcats enter the non-conference game after defeating Minnesota, 64-62, and Saint Mary’s (Calif.), 69-67, to win the Saint Mary’s Concord Hilton Classic this past weekend, while the Minutewomen lost to Ole Miss, 76-67, in their most recent outing.

Scouting Massachusetts
The Minutewomen enter Tuesday’s game at 1-4 on the year after defeating Boston University, 55-49, in their season opener and losing four contests across November. Massachusetts has fallen to Central Connecticut State, 58-55, Miami (Ohio), 81-56, Holy Cross, 76-64, and Ole Miss, 72-67. In its most recent loss to Ole Miss, center Jasmine Watson led UMass with a double-double of 14 points and team-high 11 rebounds, while Shakia Robinson led the team’s offense with 17 points. Currently, Robinson leads the team with 15 points per game, while Watson averages a team-leading nine rebounds per game and has  tallied 11 blocks on the year. Megan Zullo is shooting a team-high 50 percent from three-point range as she’s 13-for-26 from behind the arc. Overall, the Minutewomen currently average 59.4 points per game, while their opponents average 67.2 points per game. The team has outrebounded its opponents with 41.6 rebounds per game, compared to its opponents’ 39.2 boards per game.

All-Time Against The Minutewomen
Tuesday’s game marks the second match-up between the Bobcats and Minutewomen. Massachusetts leads the all-time series with Quinnipiac, 1-0, after defeating the Bobcats, 82-66, on Dec. 6, 2009 at the University of Miami Holiday Tournament.

Last Time Out
Quinnipiac won the Saint Mary’s Concord Hilton Classic after defeating Saint Mary’s, 69-67, in the championship game of the Thanksgiving tournament on Saturday, Nov. 26. The Bobcats’ offensive efforts were led by junior Felicia Barron who scored a game-high 17 points. In addition, sophomore Brittany McQuain posted her 11th career double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds, while freshman Jasmine Martin compiled 13 points on the night. Overall, the game saw six lead changes, while the score was tied eight times. The Bobcats collected 12 steals and forced 20 turnovers in the non-conference contest. In addition, the team shot 47.4 percent from three-point range.

All-Tournament Honors
Junior guard Felicia Barron and sophomore forward Brittany McQuain were named to the All-Tournament team, while Barron also received Most Valuable Player honors at the Saint Mary’s Concord Hilton Classic. Barron averaged 17.5 points per game and compiled 11 steals, seven rebounds and five assists at the tournament. McQuain ranked second on the team in points at the tourney, with 12 points per game, while leading the Bobcats in rebounds, averaging 11.5 boards per game. McQuain also played a team-high 63 minutes at the tournament.

Round One Of Tournament Play
Quinnipiac advanced to the championship game of the Saint Mary’s tournament with a 64-62 win against Big Ten opponent Minnesota on Friday, Nov. 25. Freshman Jasmine Martin scored the game-winner in the final seconds of play to give Quinnipiac the victory over the Gophers. Four Bobcats scored double-figures, including Felicia Barron, who scored a game-high 18 points. Martin and senior Kari Goodchild tallied 13 points and 10 points, respectively, while Brittany McQuain posted the team’s only double-double, with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Overall, the Bobcats’ outrebounded Minnesota, 42-to-38. 

Rookie Of The Week
Freshman Jasmine Martin was named Choice Hotels/Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week as announced by the league office on Monday, Nov. 28. The 5-8 guard turned in back-to-back 13-point performances in two-point victories over Minnesota and Saint Mary’s. In addition to scoring the game-winner against Minnesota, Martin also shot 7-for-7 from the free-throw line at Saint Mary’s Thanksgiving tournament.

Believe In Barron
Junior Felicia Barron was named National Mid-Major Women’s Basketball Player of the Week by College Sports Madness on  Monday, Nov. 28 after receiving Most Valuable Player honors at the Saint Mary’s Concord Hilton Classic. Barron currently leads Quinnipiac with 76 points on the year for a team-high 15.2 points per game. Barron also leads the team in steals (26) and assists (11).

From The Line
Freshman Jasmine Martin posts a team-leading 78.9 free-throw shooting percentage as she’s finished 15-of-19 shots from the line. Martin also ranks third in points (64), averaging 12.8 points per game. 

McQuain Makes Moves
Sophomore Brittany McQuain currently averages a team-high 10.8 boards per game, compiling 54 rebounds so far this season. McQuain also ranks second amongst the Bobcats with 13.4 points per contest.

Consistent Kari
Senior captain Kari Goodchild continues to be a dependable asset for the Bobcats this season. Goodchild currently averages four points per game and 4.2 rebounds per game.

Featured Freshmen
Freshmen Gillian “Boo” Abshire, Samantha Guastella, and Shaina Earle have already made an impact in their rookie season. Abshire has started for the Bobcats from the point-guard position in each of the team’s games this year. She currently averages 2.4 points per game and 3.4 rebounds per game. In addition Guastella and Earle are averaging 4.8 and 3.7 points per game, respectively.

Three-Pointers
Felicia Barron and Jasmine Martin each lead the Bobcats from behind the arc this year. Barron has made 8-of-25 three-pointers (32%), while Martin has scored 7-of-23 shots from three-point range for a 30.4 three-point field-goal percentage.

What’s Ahead For Quinnipiac In 2011
Quinnipiac hosts its first Northeast Conference games of the 2011-12 season against Bryant and Sacred Heart on Saturday, Dec. 3 at 12 p.m. and Monday, Dec. 5 at 7 p.m., respectively. The Bobcats will then play non-league games at Rhode Island on Saturday, Dec. 10 at 2 p.m. and against Yale on Tuesday, Dec. 20 at 4 p.m., prior to traveling to American on Wednesday, Dec. 28 and Army on Friday, Dec. 30, both of which will start at 7 p.m.
