HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac University women’s basketball team (22-9, 13-5 NEC) will make its second appearance in the Women’s National Invitation Tournament. After finishing second in the regular season, the Bobcats have earned an automatic berth into the WNIT and will travel to play Temple University (21-9, 13-1 A-10) on Thursday, March 15 at a time to be determined on Tuesday.
The Bobcats and Owls will face for the first time in program history. The winner of the first-round game will take on the victor of Harvard at Hofstra, who also play on Thursday, in round two on March 17-19.
Quinnipiac attended its first national postseason tournament back in 2008 against MAAC opponent Iona on March 19. The Bobcats lost the first-round WNIT game, 71-59.
The 64-team field was announced late Monday evening, on March 12, following the NCAA Tournament bracket announcement. The WNIT, which is in its 15th year, will consist of 31 teams receiving automatic berths and 33 teams that are granted at-large berths. First-round contests will take on place on March 14-16, with every round being single elimination. There will be four rounds in addition to the semifinals and championship game. The championship game will be televised on CBS Sports Network.
