The Quinnipiac University women’s basketball team
(5-3, 1-1 NEC) travels to play the University of Rhode Island (1-9,
0-0 A-10) in a non-conference game on Saturday, Dec. 10 at 2 p.m.
at the Thomas M. Ryan Center in Kingston,
R.I.

Scouting Rhode Island
Rhode Island dropped to 1-9 overall after falling to NEC
foe Central Connecticut State, 50-45, in its most recent outing on
Wednesday, Dec. 7. The Rams picked up their only win of the season
against Providence, 52-43, earlier in the year. URI returns home to
face Quinnipiac after losing seven consecutive contests on the
road. The Rams are led by sophomore forward Emilie Cloutier who
currently averages a team-high 11 points per game, while junior
guard Ashley Rivera is close behind with 10.8 points per
contest. Senior guard Sherrie Session leads the team in
rebounds with 5.8 boards per game. Additionally, Rivera (19-for-39)
and junior guard Ajanae Boone (16-for-39) lead the team from
three-point range, posting shooting percentages above 40
percent.
All-Time Against The Rams
Saturday’s contest marks the third all-time meeting
between the two universities. Quinnipiac leads the all-time series
with Rhode Island, 2-0. In their most recent match-up, the Bobcats
won, 73-68, on Nov. 18, 2000. Quinnipiac also defeated URI, 62-59,
on Feb. 11, 1999.
Last Time Out
After winning five straight games, the Bobcats lost to
Sacred Heart, 74-65, to drop to 1-1 in league action. Quinnipiac
junior Felicia Barron scored a team-high 19 points, while freshmen
Jasmine Martin and Samantha Guastella also posted double-figures.
Martin tallied 14 points and a team-high eight rebounds, while
Guastella recorded a season-high 10 points. Despite the loss, the
Bobcats shot above forty percent (40.4) from the floor for the
second time this season.
Guardian Angel
Felicia Barron continues to lead the Bobcats on the court.
The 5-7 guard ranks first in several statistical categories,
including points (118), assists (27), steals (50) and points per
game (14.8).
Stealing The Show
As of Monday, Nov. 4, Barron led the nation with 6.1
steals per game. In addition, Barron collected 12 steals against
Bryant to break the Quinnipiac Division I single-game record for
steals. The 5-foot-7 guard currently averages 6.25 steals per game
as she’s totaled 50 steals this year.
Brittany On The Boards
In the NCAA’s most recent poll, sophomore Brittany
McQuain was tied at 18th in the national rankings in rebounds per
game (10.7). McQuain currently leads the Bobcats with 9.9 boards
per game.
Believe In Brittany
Brittany McQuain also ranked third in Monday’s
national rankings, with three other Division-I women’s
basketball players, in double-doubles, with six on the
season. McQuain has collected a total of 13 career
double-doubles after posting seven in her freshman campaign.
Go Guastella!
Freshman Samantha Guastella had a season’s best
performance in Quinnipiac’s loss to Sacred Heart. Guastella
scored a season-high 10 points as she went 4-for-7 from the floor
for a 57.1 shooting percentage. Guastella currently averages five
points and 3.8 rebounds per game.
Bobcats vs. Bulldogs
The Bobcats won their fifth straight game as they earned
their first NEC win of the season against Bryant, 67-56, on
Saturday, Dec. 3. It was a record-breaking day for Quinnipiac as
junior Felicia Barron broke a Division I single-game record as she
compiled 12 steals in the league win. Barron also scored 16 points
to collect her first double-double of the season. Sophomore
Brittany McQuain recorded her 13th career double-double with 11
points and 11 rebounds while freshman Jasmine Martin registered a
game-high 18 points.
Season Steals
The Bobcats tallied 20 steals in their NEC victory over
Bryant, the most since Quinnipiac compiled 21 steals at Sacred
Heart on February 25, 2006.
Double-Trouble
For the first time this season, the Bobcats had two
players record a double-double in the same game when Felicia Barron
(16 pts., 12 stl.) and Brittany McQuain (11 pts., 11 reb.) each
posted double figures in two statistical categories in the win over
Bryant.
Season-Highs
Quinnipiac tallied a season-high 17 assists and nine
blocks in its win over the Bulldogs. Lebak led the team with five
assists in the outing.
Charity Stripe Stats
Freshman Jasmine Martin is currently shooting a team-high
74.2 percent (23-for-31) from the free-throw line.
Opponents Be Warned
Sophomore forward Camryn Warner has started in each of the
Bobcats’ eight games this season. Warner currently ranks
second on the team in boards per game (5.6) and averages 7.5 points
per contest.
Senior Stats
Senior captain Kari Goodchild currently averages 4.3
points and 4.1 rebounds per game, while fellow captain Jacinda
Dunbar posts 3.34points and 4.0 boards per game in her senior
campaign.
Martin Makes Moves
Freshman Jasmine Martin led the Bobcats with 14.3 points
per game in the Bobcats last three outings. Martin currently ranks
second on the team in points per game (13.4).
What’s Ahead for Quinnipiac In 2011
Quinnipiac will host Yale on Tuesday, Dec. 20 at 4 p.m.,
followed by a pair of road games at American on Wednesday, Dec. 28
and Army on Friday, Dec. 30. Both contests will start at 7 p.m.
