HAMDEN, Conn. – College Sports Madness has named sophomore Brittany McQuain (Independence, Mo.) the Northeast Conference’s Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, as announced on Monday, Jan. 23.
McQuain receives her first weekly honor of the 2011-12 season after leading the Bobcats to back-to-back NEC wins on the road last week. The 5-11 forward averaged 12 points per game and nine rebounds per contest as QU defeated Robert Morris, 82-74, on Jan. 16 and Bryant, 84-47, in its most recent outing on Jan. 21. McQuain led all Bobcats in its victory over Bryant with 14 points after shooting 5-for-8 from the floor and a perfect 4-for-4 from the charity stripe. Earlier in the week she registered 10 points, while pulling down nine boards in each match-up.
McQuain currently leads the Bobcats with 9.6 rpg and is third in scoring with 10.4 ppg. The Missouri native has also compiled eight double-doubles in her sophomore campaign while maintaining a 36.9 field-goal percentage.
The Bobcats, tied at second in the league standings with a 5-2 record, return to action when they travel to play first-place Sacred Heart, 7-0 in NEC play, on Monday, Jan. 23 at 7 p.m. at the William H. Pitt Center in Fairfield, Conn.
