NEC Post-Season Play Begins
The second-seeded Quinnipiac University women’s basketball (21-8, 13-5 NEC) makes its 12th consecutive appearance in post-season play as it hosts No. 7 Mount St. Mary’s University (14-5, 10-8 NEC) in a Northeast Conference Quarterfinals game on Saturday, March 3. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m. at the TD Bank Sports Center in Hamden, Conn.

The 2012 NEC Tournament
The Quinnipiac vs. Mount St. Mary’s match-up is one of four NEC Quarterfinal games occurring on Saturday. This year’s regular season champion and top-seed Sacred Heart (22-7, 15-3 NEC) will host No. 8 Fairleigh Dickinson (13-17, 8-10 NEC) at 1 p.m. Later in the afternoon, sixth-seed LIU Brooklyn (21-9, 10-8 NEC) will face No. 3 Monmouth (17-12, 12-6 NEC) at 4 p.m., while Keystone State opponents, No. 4 Robert Morris (17-12, 11-7 NEC) and fifth-seed Saint Francis (Pa.) (14-15, 11-7), battle at 5 p.m.

Scouting The Mount
The Mountaineers currently stand at 14-15 overall and clinched the seventh seed in the NEC Tournament with a 10-8 mark in league action. In its most recent outing, Mount St. Mary’s lost its regular-season finale at Central Connecticut State, 72-68, on Monday, Feb. 27. Mountaineers’ junior guard Selina Mann was recently selected to the All-NEC second team. Mann has led the Mount with 4.9 rebounds per game, in assists (139), while averaging six points per contest.  She’s also managed to pace the team and rank third nationally in steals (114). Fellow junior Sydney Henderson currently leads the team with 17.1  points per game and averages 4.1 rebounds per outing, while sophomore Jessie Kaufman is the second-leading scorer for the Mount (8.6 ppg.).

All-Time Against Mount St. Mary’s
Saturday marks the 25th meeting between Quinnipiac and Mount St. Mary’s, with the Bobcats leading the all-time series, 17-7. The contest also stands as the team’s second meeting in the NEC Tournament. QU holds an 8-5 advantage in Hamden, Conn. and is 8-2 on the road.

Last Time Out Against MSM
In their most recent meeting, the Bobcats defeated the Mount, 89-73. Quinnipiac saw six Bobcats with double figures in the scoring column, including Felicia Barron, who led QU with 19 points. Sydney Henderson and Kayla Grossett each posted 20-plus points for the Mountaineers. Quinnipiac shot 58.2 percent from the floor, its second-best field-goal percentage of the season, while the team’s 89 points stands as its highest point total of the 2011-12 campaign.

QU vs. The Mount In NEC Tournament Play
The Bobcats are 1-0 against the Mountaineers in the NEC Tournament. The two squads met in a NEC Quarterfinal contest during the 2007-08 season where Quinnipiac advanced to the semifinals with a 66-56 win over the Mount on March 3, 2008.

NEC Tournament History
Saturday marks the 12th straight NEC Tournament for the Bobcats and 13th overall. Quinnipiac posts a 6-12 record in tournament action, with its most recent win during the 2008-09 season. Last year, Quinnipiac clinched the seventh seed and lost a first-round game at Monmouth, 55-36, on March  5, 2011.

2012 NEC Women’s Basketball Awards
Felicia Barron, the Bobcats’ top scorer (17.1 ppg) and national leader in steals (4.4 per game), was recently named NEC Defensive Player of the Year. She also was selected to the All-NEC first team, while freshman Jasmine Martin, the team’s second-leading scorer with 10.9 points per game, received All-Rookie honors.

Last Time Out For The Bobcats
In its most recent outing, Quinnipiac lost to conference foe Saint Francis (Pa.), 77-71, despite outshooting and outrebounding the Red Flash. QU posted a 41.5 field-goal percentage and was led by Jasmine Martin’s 15-point performance. Felicia Barron and Kari Goodchild also recorded double digits in the scoring column. Alli Williams paced the Red Flash with a triple-double.

Believe In Barron
Junior Felicia Barron led Quinnipiac with an average of 17 points per game last week to increase her season total to 496 points. The 5-7 guard is currently 11 points away from reaching the 1,000-point mark with a career total of 989 points. Barron’s 496 points rank eighth in Quinnipiac’s all-time single-season history for points and stand at fifth in QU’s Division-I single-season history for points.

Brittany On The Boards
Forward Brittany McQuain has paced the Bobcats in rebounds in 23 of its 29 games during the regular season. She currently leads QU with 9.4 rebounds per game and 274 boards in her sophomore campaign, which rank fourth in Quinnipiac’s D-I single-season history for rebounds. She’s just 10 rebounds away from reaching the 500-mark as she’s compiled 490 boards in only two years with the Bobcats.

Seeing Double
Brittany McQuain recorded her 11th double-double of the 2011-12 season and 17th of her career despite the Bobcats’ loss to the Robert Morris Colonials on Saturday, Feb. 25.

Stealing Streaks
Junior Felicia Barron continues to lead the nation with 4.4 steals per game, as she’s led the Bobcats’ efforts to lead the league with 11.0 steals per game. Barron’s career-high 12-steal performance against Bryant is tied at first in the NCAA standings for individual game-highs. She’s collected at least one steal in every game this season for a team-high 129 steals, which rank third in the QU women’s basketball program’s all-time single-season history for steals.

Sensational Scoring
The Bobcats continue to dominate the NEC in scoring with 68.3 points per game, while their scoring margin of +5.8 ranks second. Felicia Barron ranks third in the league and in the top-75 of the national rankings with 17.1 ppg. Jasmine Martin (10.9) and Brittany McQuain (10.4), the Bobcats second and third leading scorers, also rank in the top-25 of the NEC in scoring.

Bobcats On The Boards
Quinnipiac remains the NEC’s leading team in rebounding with 42.4 boards per outing. The Bobcats have collected at least 50 rebounds in four outings this season. Brittany McQuain leads the Bobcats’ rebounding efforts with 9.4 rpg, which also ranks fourth amongst NEC opponents and in the top-50 of the national standings.

NEC Notes
Besides leading the conference in scoring offense, steals and rebounds, the Bobcats also rank first amongst NEC opponents with a turnover margin of +3.59. QU ranks second in assist/turnover ratio (0.86) and in assists per game (14.72).

Conference Stats
QU currently averages 69.8 points per game against conference opponents and posts a +9.0 scoring margin. The Bobcats also average 42.1 rebounds per contest against NEC schools while shooting 39.9 percent from the floor.

NCAA RPI Standings
As of Feb. 27, the Bobcats continued to lead all NEC opponents in the NCAA RPI rankings at 68th in the national standings.

What’s Up Next For The Bobcats
If Quinnipiac defeats Mount St. Mary’s on Saturday, the Bobcats will host a Semifinal contest against a team to be determined on Tuesday, March 6.
