HAMDEN, Conn. – Sophomore Brittany McQuain (Independence, Mo.) of the Quinnipiac University women’s basketball team was recently named College Sports Madness Northeast Conference Player of the Week, as announced by the college athletics website on Monday, Feb. 20.
McQuain receives the accolade after helping the Bobcats win two back-to-back NEC contests last week. The 5-11 forward averaged a team-high 15.0 points and 10 rebounds per game as Quinnipiac defeated Central Connecticut State, 58-49, on Wednesday, Feb. 15 and outlasted LIU Brooklyn, 54-51, in overtime on Saturday, Feb. 18. McQuain also compiled four steals, three assists and a block while shooting 59.1 percent from the floor (12-of-22) over the two-game tilt.
Most recently, McQuain led QU to a 64-41 victory over St. Francis (N.Y.) on Monday afternoon. She currently leads the Bobcats with 9.5 boards per outing and is the team’s third leading scorer with 10.5 ppg. The College Sports Madness award is the sophomore’s second of the 2011-12 season.
The first-place Bobcats, tied with Sacred Heart at 13-3 in league play, close the regular season with a two-game homestand against opponents from the Keystone State. First, QU hosts Robert Morris on Saturday, Feb. 25 at 1:30 p.m. The Bobcats will honor their two seniors on Saturday, a game which will be televised on ESPN 3. Quinnipiac will then play Saint Francis (Pa.) on Monday, Feb. 27 at 7 p.m. in its regular-season finale. Both contests will be played at the TD Bank Sports Center in Hamden, Conn.
