Women's Basketball Loses To Central Connecticut State, 61-58

McQuain (Independence, Mo.) and junior Jacinda
Dunbar (Edison, N.J.) each posted a double-double, but the
Quinnipiac University women's basketball team fell to Central
Connecticut State, 61-58, in a Northeast Conference match-up on
Saturday afternoon. With the loss, the Bobcats drop to 9-6 in
conference play, while the Blue Devils improve to 9-6 in the
NEC.
McQuain recorded her fourth career double-double of 13 points and a
team-high 16 rebounds, while Dunbar earned her first double-double
of the season with 12 points and 10 boards. Sophomore Felicia
Barron (Springfield, Mass.) and senior Courtney
Kaminski each added 10 points for the Bobcats. The Blue Devils'
Kerrianne Dugan contributed 11 points and 10 rebounds in the game,
while Leanne Crockett and Justina Udenze each scored 12 points.
Quinnipiac was outshot 39.6 percent (21-53) to 28.1 percent (16-57)
from the floor, but outshot Central Connecticut State 67.6 percent
(23-34) to 63.6 percent (14-22) from the free-throw line. The
Bobcats outrebounded the Blue Devils, 49-37.
The lead changed a total of 15 times and the score was tied seven
times in the contest. The Blue Devils led by as many as eight
points in the first half, while the Bobcats led by as many as five
points in the second stanza.
Quinnipiac was down 9-7, until Camryn
Warner (Keene, N.H.) tied the score with two free throws with
11:57 on the clock. The Blue Devils' Udenze answered with a solo
8-0 run to take back the lead, 17-9, at 8:41. The Bobcats came
within three points of the Blue Devils, twice in the first half.
The Blue Devils held a six-point advantage, 27-21, at the
break.
11 of the 15 lead times came in the second half. Barron hit a
three-pointer, followed by a McQuain layup, on a Bobcats' 5-0 run,
to tie the Blue Devils at 32 points apiece with just over 16
minutes to play. Quinnipiac went on to lead by five points, 39-34,
at the 12 minute mark. Down the stretch, the Bobcats held a
two-point advantage over the Blue Devils, 48-46, with 4:04 on the
clock. Dugan responded with a three-point shot to take back the
lead for Central Connecticut State, 49-48. The score was tied
52-52, until Crocket scored a Blue Devils' three-pointer at the one
minute mark. Both teams added six points in the last minute of the
game. The Blue Devils scored all six of its points from the foul
line. Central Connecticut State would go on to win by three points,
61-58.
Quinnipiac
travels to Bryan on Monday, Feb. 21 for a Northeast Conference
match-up set for a 7 p.m. tip-off. The Bobcats then close-out the
regular season at home on Saturday, Feb. 26 against Fairleigh
Dickinson at 12 p.m. and Monday, Feb. 28 against Monmouth at 7
p.m.
