Women's Basketball Falls To Yale, 74-68
NEW HAVEN,
Conn. - The Quinnipiac University women's basketball team lost,
74-68, to in-state rival Yale University on Monday evening. With
the loss, the Bobcats drop to 3-6 on the season, while the Bulldogs
improve to 3-7 on the year.
Quinnipiac was led by Felicia
Barron (Springfield, Mass.) and Courtney
Kaminski (Dudley, Mass.), who each scored 16 points in the
game. Jacinda
Dunbar (Edison, N.J.) led the Bobcats with a game-high 10
rebounds, also adding nine points against Yale. Overall, Quinnipiac
shot 47.2 percent from the floor.
The Bobcats went ahead, 6-0, two minutes into the first half, as
Kari
Goodchild (Van Horne, Iowa) scored two points and Felicia
Barron made two field goals. Quinnipiac then went on a 9-4 run,
as Jacki
Mann (Rutherford, N.J.) made the first three-pointer of the
game, making the score 15-6 with 14:31 on the clock. Both teams
continued to battle down the stretch, yet the Bobcats were able to
stay ahead by five points, 24-19, with less than eight minutes
remaining in the half.
After Quinnipiac went ahead by 10 points, 32-22, its biggest lead
of the half, Yale responded with an 11-2 run, making the score read
34-33 with two minutes on the clock. The half ended with the
Bobcats ahead, 35-33, as Alyssa Jann (Westford, Mass.) made a free
throw, the result of a Yale turnover forced by Lailah
Pratt (Palmyra, N.J.).
The Bobcats outshot the Bulldogs from the field, 52.2 to 33.3
percent in the first half. Barron led the Quinnipiac with 10
points, while Goodchild scored seven points.
The Bulldogs went ahead for their first time in the game, 42-40,
after Michele Cashen made a pair of free throws with 15 minutes
remaining in the game. Yale then went on a 9-0 run, which was ended
by a jumper in the paint made by Courtney
Kaminski (Dudley, Mass.). The score read 53-47 as Jacinda
Dunbar (Edison, N.J.) finished two free throws with 10 minutes
remaining.
Yale went ahead by 12 points, 61-49, for its biggest lead of the
game, with just over seven minutes left in the game. Quinnipiac
then went on a 9-0 run to narrow the gap by three points,
61-58.
Yale went on a 5-0 run with less than two minutes on the clock,
giving Yale an eight point edge over Quinnipiac, 69-61. The Bobcats
came back within five points, 73-68 with only seconds remaining in
the game. The game would end with Yale ahead, 74-68, as Cashen made
the last free throw of the game.
Quinnipiac returns to action when it travels to play the University
of New Hampshire on Wednesday, Dec. 22 at the Lundholm Gymnasium in
Durham, N.H. at 5:00 p.m.
