Women's Basketball Plays In Vanderbilt Thanksgiving Tournament

In Annual Tournament
The Quinnipiac University women's basketball team (0-3)
will play in the Vanderbilt Thanksgiving Tournament this weekend.
The Bobcats will face the Commodores (2-1) on Friday, Nov. 26 at
5:00 p.m. and either Princeton (2-1) or USC (3-1) on Sunday, Nov.
26 at either Noon or 2:00 p.m. Both contests will be played in the
Memorial Gym in Nashville, Tenn.

Vanderbilt
Vanderbilt enters Friday's game with an overall record of
2-1 on the season. The Commodores won their first two games of the
season at home. The team won, 73-52, against Howard in its
home-opener on Nov. 14 and beat Samford, 70-60, on Nov. 18. In its
most recent outing, Vanderbilt lost, 72-66, in its first away game
of the season, to Florida State on Nov. 21. Overall, the Commodores
are shooting just under 50 percent from the floor, with a .494
field goal percentage, and are .702 from the free throw line. In
addition, the team averages 33 rebounds per game, while holding its
opponents to 30.3. Christina Foggie leads the Commodores with 17.5
points per game and a .520 field goal percentage. In addition, the
freshman guard has a team-high 13 assists on the season. Stephanie
Holzer and Hannah Tuomi lead the team averaging 7.7 and 7.0
rebounds per game, respectively. Holzer is 14-15 behind the line
with a .933 free throw percentage. Jasmine Lister leads Vanderbilt,
from behind the arc, as she's 9-15 this season. The Commodores were
selected to finish third in the Southeast Conference (SEC)
Preseason Poll and as of Nov. 23, Vanderbilt is currently ranked
22nd in the USA Today/ESPN Division I Top 25 Coaches Poll.
All-Time
Against The Commodores
Quinnipiac holds an
all-time record of 0-1 with Vanderbilt. In its only meeting, the
Bobcats were edged by the Commodores, 75-74, at the TD Bank Sports
Center in Hamden, Conn. on Dec. 10, 2009. The Bobcats led at the
half, 41-34, but the Commodores made a comeback in the second half,
shooting 42.2 percent from the floor and 78.6 percent from the
line. Four Quinnipiac starters finished in double-digit scoring,
including Kathleen
Neyens, who scored a team-high 15 points. Courtney
Kaminski (Dudley, Mass.) earned a double-double, as she scored
12 points and pulled down 12 rebounds. In addition, Jacinda
Dunbar (Edison, N.J.) finished the game with 14 points, while
Felicia
Barron (Springfield, Mass.) scored 13 and made a career-high
seven rebounds and seven assists.
First
Meeting
The Bobcats will face either Princeton or USC for the
first time in school history on Sunday.

Princeton
Princeton enters the
Tournament at 2-1 on the season. The Tigers won their home-opener
against Northeast Conference foe Fairleigh Dickinson, 78-37, on
Nov. 13 before falling to Rutgers, 54-53, on Nov. 18. In their most
recent outing, Princeton beat Lehigh, 69-52, in an away game on
Nov. 21. The Tigers are led by Niveen Rasheed who is shooting .436
from the floor and averages 13.7 points per game. In addition, she
leads the team with 8.3 rebounds per game and has made nine assists
this season. Addie Micir has made an impact for Princeton, shooting
.429 from behind the arc, as she's made nine three-pointers in the
past three games. Overall, Princeton has a .419 field goal
percentage, while its opponents are .347 from the floor. The team
averages only 14 turnovers per game, while forcing its opponents to
give up an average of 21.3 turnovers. The Tigers have pulled down
40.3 rebounds per game with a rebounding margin of +6.3. The Tigers
were selected to repeat as the Ivy League champions in the Ivy
League Preseason Media/SID Poll.
Scouting
USC
The Women of Troy
enters this weekend's games with a 3-1 overall record. USC won its
first game of the season against Gonzaga, 79-73, on Nov. 12. Its
only loss of the season was at #6/5 Duke, 75-50, on Nov. 15. In the
Trojans last two outings, they went 2-0. The team beat Long Beach
State, 82-60, on Nov. 21 and Georgia, 71-63, on Nov. 23. Briana
Gilbreath averages 12.3 points per game, while Christina Marinacci
pulls down an average of 8.5 rebounds. In addition, Jacki Gemelos
has a team-high 14 assists on the season and is 7-7 from the line.
Overall, USC is .427 from the floor and has a .643 free throw
percentage. The Trojans were chosen to finish fourth in the 2010-11
Pac-10 Preseason Media Poll.

Felicia
Barron (Springfield, Mass.) currently leads the team, averaging
10.0 points per game and 2.7 rebounds per game.
Brittany Crashes The Boards
Freshman Brittany
McQuain (Independence, Mo.) currently averages 5 rebounds per
game and is tied for fifth in the Northeast Conference with 15
defensive rebounds on the season.
Last
Time Out
In its most recent outing, Quinnipiac fell to St.
Bonaventure, 66-47, in a contest held at the Reilly Center on Nov.
21. The Bobcats were led by Felicia
Barron (Springfield, Mass.) as she scored 14 points and made
four assists. Alyssa Jann (Westford, Mass.) pulled down a team-high
six rebounds out of the team's 33.
Holy
Cross At Home
The Bobcats lost, 72-60, in its home-opener against Holy Cross on
Wednesday, Nov. 17. at the TD Bank Sports Center. The team recorded
a 66.7 free throw percentage and was .329 from the floor in the
defeat. In the first twenty minutes of play, the score was tied
four times, while the lead changed three times. Despite the loss,
the Bobcats were able to hold the Crusaders to only a two-point
lead in the first half.
Kaminski Scores 1,000th Point
Senior center Courtney
Kaminski (Dudley, Mass.) became the 17th Quinnipiac women's
basketball player to score 1,000 points, as she scored 10 points in
Wednesday's game against Holy Cross. The senior also made five
rebounds in the contest, after missing the Bobcats' first game of
the season.
Leading Ladies At Home
Red-shirt sophomore Felicia
Barron (Springfield, Mass.) led the Bobcats with 14 points
against Holy Cross. The guard also recorded a team-high four
assists and two steals in the game. Junior guard Kari
Goodchild (Van Horne, Iowa) pulled down a team-high seven
assists and scored six points. Jacinda
Dunbar (Edison, N.J) led Quinnipiac with two blocks versus Holy
Cross, also recording 11 points and six rebounds in the game. Jacki
Mann (Rutherford, N.J.) was the only player to make every field
goal attempt (6) in Wednesday's game. The junior forward scored 12
points, tallied one assist and pulled down four rebounds
overall.
Season-Opener
The Bobcats lost, 65-48, in their season-opener on Friday, Nov. 12
at Fairfield University. Overall Quinnipiac was .455 from the free
throw line and had a .340 field goal percentage in the contest. The
team was led by freshman forward Brittany
McQuain (Independence, Mo.) and junior transfer Kari
Goodchild (Van Horne, Iowa). Both Quinnipiac newcomers scored
nine points, while McQuain also recorded seven rebounds.
What's Ahead For The Bobcats
Quinnipiac returns to action when it plays Vermont on Wednesday,
Dec. 1 at the TD Bank Sports Center in Hamden, Conn.
