Women's Basketball Falls To Holy Cross, 72-60, In Home-Opener
HAMDEN, Conn. -
Senior Courtney
Kaminski (Dudley, Mass.) scored 10 points including the
1000th of her career but the Quinnipiac University
Women's Basketball team fell to Holy Cross 72-60 in their 2010-2011
home opener at the TD Bank Sports Center. With the loss the
Bobcats fell to 0-2 on the season, while the Crusaders improved to
1-2.
Felicia
Barron (Springfield, Mass.) led the Bobcats with 14 points. Jacki
Mann (Rutherford, NJ) chipped in with 12 while Jacinda
Dunbar (Edison, N.J.) scored 11 points for Quinnipiac. Whitney
Fremeau (Manchester, N.H.) paced Holy Cross with 20 points and
Meredith Ward (Westerly, R.I.) had 14. Amy Lepley (Norfolk, Mass.)
added 13 points and 12 rebounds for Holy Cross.
Holy Cross used their
full court pressure defense from the opening tip to rattle the
Bobcats throughout the game forcing nine turnovers in the first
half. The Crusader defense proved to be a problem for the Bobcats
all night, holding Quinnipiac to 33 percent shooting from the
floor.
"We had the looks,
but just couldn't put them down," said Quinnipiac coach Tricia
Fabbri. "We need to put the ball in the bucket."
The Crusaders opened
the second half with a 19-6 run to take a 13 point lead.
Quinnipiac used a 6-2 run led by a Barron steal and fast break
lay-up later in the half to cut the deficit to 10, but that is as
close as they would get. Fremeau scored 15 of her 20 points in the
second half for Holy Cross.
The Bobcats will
travel to St. Bonaventure on Sunday to continue their
non-conference schedule. The game is schedule to tip at 1
p.m.
