Women's Basketball Opens Season With 65-48 Loss At Fairfield
Freshman Brittany McQuain (Independence, Mo.) led Quinnipiac with nine points and seven rebounds, while Kari Goodchild (Van Horne, Iowa) also added nine points. Joelle Nawrocki compiled a team-high of 15 points for Fairfield.
Quinnipiac went ahead
7-3 in the first three minutes of play, as Alyssa Jann (Westford,
Mass) scored the first three-point shot in the game and freshman
Brittany Hill (Mechanicsville, Va.) made two free throws.
Fairfield countered with an 8-0 run that put the Stags ahead 14-9
with 13:36 on the clock and never trailed again. Later in the half,
the Stags went ahead by 14 points, leading the game with a score of
28-14. Katelyn Linney made two three-pointers, while Taryn Johnson
scored four points on the drive.
The Bobcats were able to narrow the gap, ending the half with 32-19
on the scoreboard.
The Bobcats went on a
6-0 run early in the second half close the deficit to 37-29.
Quinnipiac kept control of the ball in the last two minutes of the
game, scoring eight points, including a jumper made by Robin
Keke (Bowie, Md.) at the buzzer, ending the game in a 65-48
Quinnipiac defeat.
Quinnipiac returns to
action for the team's home opener against Holy Cross on Wednesday,
Nov. 17. The game is scheduled to begin at 7 pm at the TD Bank
Sports Center.
