Women's Basketball Ranked Sixth In NEC Preseason Coaches' Poll
HAMDEN, Conn. - The
Quinnipiac University women's basketball team has been selected to
finish sixth in the Northeast Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll.
The poll was announced by the conference office on Thursday morning
in its annual media teleconference. The Bobcats finished the
2009-10 season in eighth place in the NEC standings with a 7-11
record in conference play and a 12-18 overall record. The Bobcats
clinched a spot in the NEC Tournament for a ninth consecutive
season in 2010. Senior center Courtney
Kaminski (Dudley, Mass.) was selected to the Preseason All-NEC
Kaminski returns as one of the Bobcats' top players, as she's
posted 996 career points. In the 2009-10 season, the center
compiled 465 points in 30 starts. Kaminski, who was named
Choice Hotels NEC Player of the Week for
the week of March 1, 2010, led the team averaging 15.5 points and
7.6 rebounds per game last season.
2010 NEC Tournament finalist Long Island was picked to finish
first in the poll with six first place votes, while defending
Regular Season Champion Robert Morris was tabbed second with three
first place votes. Sacred Heart followed in third, while NEC
Tournament Champion Saint Francis (Pa.) was picked to finish
fourth, receiving two first place votes.
Monmouth was the coaches' fifth choice, while Central Connecticut
State and Bryant were slated to finish in seventh and eighth,
respectively. Fairleigh Dickinson was slotted ninth, while Wagner,
Mount St. Mary's and Saint Francis (N.Y.) rounded out the poll.
The Bobcats open the 2010-11 season in a non-conference match-up
against Fairfield University on Friday, Nov. 12 at Alumni Hall in
Fairfield, Conn. The game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start.
