HAMDEN, Conn. - Junior Courtney Kaminski (Dudley, Mass.) of the Quinnipiac University women's basketball team was named the Choice Hotels Northeast Conference Player of the Week for her performances against Monmouth and Fairleigh Dickinson over the weekend. This marks the first weekly award by a member of the Bobcats this season as Kaminski's consecutive 20-plus point showings propelled her team into the 2010 NEC Tournament as the No. 7 seed. Kaminski has been honored by the league office once before in her career, claiming the NEC Rookie of the Week award in the final weekend of the 2006-07 season.
Against Monmouth on Thursday night, Kaminski scored a game-high 25 points in just 29 minutes of play as the Bobcats defeated the Hawks in a must-win game, 78-69. The redshirt junior's 25 points were her second highest scoring output of the season. Kaminski's performance down the stretch helped Quinnipiac seal the victory as she scored 16 second-half points. She also connected on all of her 11 free-throw attempts in the game, marking the second time this season that she has made double-digit free throws in a game.
In Saturday's regular season finale at Fairleigh Dickinson, Kaminski powered the Bobcats to a 17-point win, 68-51, with her team leading eighth double-double of the season. She recorded her third game of 20 or more points this season, dropping 22 points on the Knights. Her 13 rebounds were her second highest total of the season and part of Quinnipiac's most dominating rebounding performance of the year, pulling down 56 in the game as team compared to Fairleigh Dickinson's 32.
The Bobcats begin play in their 10th consecutive NEC Tournament on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. in Loretto, Pa., at Saint Francis University. Quinnipiac's 7-11 conference record earned it the No. 7 seed and a meeting with the No. 2 Long Island Blackbirds in the third game of the day.
