Women's Basketball Head Coach Tricia Fabbri Signs Contract Extension Through 2012-13 Season
HAMDEN, Conn. --
Quinnipiac University Director of Athletics and Recreation Jack
McDonald has announced that Women's Basketball Head Coach Tricia
Fabbri has signed a one-year contract extension through the 2012-13
season. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.
"Tricia Fabbri represents all that is good about a Division I
coach," said Quinnipiac Director of Athletics Jack McDonald. "She
and her staff have brought the Quinnipiac women's basketball
program to be one of the best in the Northeast Conference and in
the region. We look forward to continued success for Coach Fabbri
on the court, in post-season, in the classroom and in the community
for many more years at Quinnipiac."
Fabbri is entering her 14th season on the Bobcats' sidelines. The
all-time winningest coach in Quinnipiac women's basketball history
with 177 career victories, Fabbri was named the 2000-01 and 2005-06
Northeast Conference Coach of the Year. This past season, Fabbri
led the Bobcats to a berth in the Women's National Invitation
Tournament, the first national postseason tournament appearance in
Quinnipiac women's basketball Division I history. She led the
Bobcats to 25 wins in the historic season, the most by Quinnipiac
since joining the Division I ranks.
The first full-time coach in program history, Fabbri is also the
only coach in the history of Quinnipiac women's basketball history
to win 100 games. As successful as the team has been on the court
since Fabbri took the reins of the program, Quinnipiac women's
basketball has also gained much acclaim academically. For the past
several years the team has been ranked in the Women's Basketball
Coaches Association's All-Academic Top 25, while also producing a
Verizon Academic All-District First Team pick as well as a Division
I-AAA Athletic Director's Association Scholar-Athlete.
"I'd like to thank President John Lahey, Val Belmonte and Jack
McDonald for giving me the opportunity to continue serving as head
women's basketball coach here at Quinnipiac," Fabbri said. "It's a
great vote of confidence and there's no place I'd rather be. I look
forward to continuing the commitment to excellence that this
university represents, and providing positive, educational
opportunities to the young women of this basketball program."
During her coaching career at Quinnipiac, Fabbri's teams have
featured 16 Northeast Conference All-League honorees, five NEC
All-Rookie honorees and one NEC Rookie of the Year.
Prior to coming to Quinnipiac, Fabbri was an assistant coach at
Fairfield University where she also enjoyed an outstanding playing
career. Fabbri ranks fifth all-time in points and third all-time in
rebounds at Fairfield. She has been inducted into the Fairfield
University Hall of Fame, the Connecticut Women's Basketball Hall of
Fame, the Delran (N.J.) High School Athletic Hall of Fame and the
Albert Carino Basketball Club of South Jersey Hall of Fame. She was
also named to the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference 25th
Anniversary Team. In 2007, Fabbri was also given the St. Clare
Award at the 22nd Annual Franciscan Sports Banquet.
