Germaine Fairchild enters her 13^th year as head coach of the Quinnipiac University softball program. Fairchild has totaled a 276-322-1 record in her 12 years of coaching the Bobcats.

Last season, Coach Fairfield led the Bobcats to their third consecutive Northeast Conference Tournament and second consecutive trip to the Finals. The Bobcats closed out the regular season with a 32-18 record and 13-7 mark in conference play. The team entered the 2012 NEC Tournament as the No. 2 seed and advanced to the final round, defeating No. 4 Monmouth and No. 1 seeded Robert Morris along the way. Ultimately, the Bobcats fell to No. 3 LIU Brooklyn but closed the season with their second straight 30-win campaign and third straight with at least 25 wins.

Three players earned All-NEC accolades for their performances throughout the 2012 season as senior pitcher Heather Schwartzburg earned First Team honors while senior outfielder and junior shortstop Alex Alba claimed Second Team distinctions. Schwartzburg, Christy Cabrera and Ashley Heiberger also earned NEC All-Tournament Team honors under the guidance of Coach Fairchild following the 2012 postseason.

The 2011 season saw Coach Fairchild guide the Bobcats to their second consecutive Northeast Conference Tournament. Quinnipiac entered the 2011 NEC Tournament as the No. 3 seed and advanced to the final round of tournament play. However, due to poor weather conditions, the championship round was canceled and second-seeded Sacred Heart was crowned champion based on its undefeated, 2-0 record in tournament action.

The Bobcats ended the 2011 season with an overall record of 32-26 and a 13-7 mark in the league. Several members of the Quinnipiac squad received NEC honors, including Heather Schwartzburg, who was named the conference’s Pitcher of the Year, while Ashley Heiberger picked up the Golden Glove Award and Jordan Paolucci received the NEC Rookie of the Year title. Schwartzburg and Paolucci were selected All-NEC first team, while Jacquie Ristow earned a spot on the All-NEC second team. Paolucci and Mina Duffy were also added to the 2011 All-Tournament team under the direction of Coach Fairchild.

Additionally, two Bobcats set new Quinnipiac records last year. Schwartzburg broke the QU single-season wins record and strikeout record, ending the season with 23 wins and 296 strikeouts. Paolucci broke the Quinnipiac single-season home run record with 15 in her rookie campaign.

Throughout her time at Quinnipiac, Fairchild has continued to demonstrate the Bobcats’ program as one of the best in the Northeast, reaching the NEC Softball Tournament finals in the 2003 and 2004 seasons, as well. Fairchild has led the Bobcats to a total of six NEC Tournament appearances during 2003-05, 2007, and 2010-12.  The 2003 club also set a program-high with 34 wins.

Also an accomplished player in her own right, Fairchild has played with the Georgia Pride of the Women's Professional Softball League and the Virginia Roadsters of the Women's Professional Fastpitch League. Most recently, she's played with the nationally known Connecticut Brakettes of the National Pro Fastpitch League, and won NPF Championships with the NY/NJ Juggernaut in 2004 and with the Washington Glory in 2007.

In 2008, Fairchild began the NPF season as a player-assistant coach with the New England Riptide, before taking over as the head coach in late June, and leading the Riptide to their fifth straight playoff appearance.

Fairchild is a '96 graduate of the University of Tulsa where she earned her bachelor's degree in Environmental Policy. She also received a master’s degree in Kinesiology from Texas Woman's University.
