EDISON, N.J. – Just two weeks after Quinnipiac softball earned its first MAAC Pitcher of the Week honor, sophomore outfielder Courtney Solt became the program's first to win the MAAC Player of the Week award, as announced by the league office on Tuesday, March 25. Solt wins her first career Player of the Week award after leading the Northeast Conference with three Rookie of the Week honors last season. This weekly honor is the first Player of the Week award won for Quinnipiac in their new conference while it also is the first Player of the Week for the Bobcats since Mina Duffy won the honor back on April 3, 2012.
The Bobcats' sophomore outfielder had herself an incredible four-game stretch this past weekend at the Towson Invitational as she batted .727 (8-for-11) with five runs, one RBI, one double, one walk, three hit-by-pitches, and three stolen bases. Solt posted an incredible .800 on-base percentage and slugged .818 for the week. She recorded at least one hit in all four games while she reached base safely at least twice in all four games. Solt started the weekend with a single, two runs scored and three hit-by-pitches against Towson.
Every game after that was a multi-hit game for Solt, starting with Wagner on Saturday as she finished 3-for-3 with one run, one double and one stolen base. It was Solt's first three-hit game of the season and the eighth of her young career. She continued her strong weekend with a 2-for-4 day with one RBI against the Tigers in a 2-1 victory for the Bobcats. In the fourth and final game at the Towson Invitational Solt went 2-for-3 with two runs, one walk and two stolen bases against Wagner. Not only was Solt dominant offensively, she didn't commit an error in the field as she went a perfect 6-for-6 on her putout opportunities in left field for the weekend.
Solt is in the midst of one of the hottest streaks of her career as she is batting .455 (15-for-33) over the last 13 games with 10 runs, two doubles, three RBI, three walks, three hit-by-pitches and three stolen bases. For the season, Solt is batting .316 (18-for-57) with a team-high 13 runs scored, two doubles, five RBI, four walks and four stolen bases.
Quinnipiac and Solt will be back in action this week as they will face UConn on Thursday at 3:30 pm in their 2014 home opener, followed by weekend doubleheaders at Manhattan and home against Monmouth.
