HAMDEN, Conn. – Quinnipiac University softball head coach Germaine Fairchild announced that Keilani Finley (Alameda, Calif.) has signed a National Letter of Intent and will join the Bobcat program as a freshman in the fall of 2013. Finley becomes the third member of Quinnipiac's incoming freshmen class for next season.
"Keilani is a highly versatile, multi-sport athlete who will add athleticism to our defense, along with power and on-base percentage to our offense," said Fairchild. "We look forward to her positive contributions not only to our Softball Program, but also to the Quinnipiac community."
Finley comes to Quinnipiac from Encinal High School in Alameda, Calif. where she was a two-sport athlete for the Jets. A three-year captain for the softball team, Finley blossomed in her final seasons and earned several individual accolades for her efforts. She was selected to the BSAL All-League team twice with first and second team honors (Bay Shore Athletic League), and was also named to the All-East Bay team during her career as well. Finley hit over .450 and reached base more than 50 percent of the time in her senior year. Her season was highlighted by a game against Albany where she hit her fifth and sixth homeruns, including a grand slam, and drove in seven runs in a 15-8 win.
In addition to her experiences with the Jets softball program, Finley has also played for CV Synergy, a travel team near her hometown, since 2009. Her preferred positions are catcher, shortstop, outfield and first base, but her athleticism gives Fairchild plenty of options. She was also a member of the volleyball team and an honor roll student.
Finley joins Madison Kelly (Whitehall, Pa.) and Julia McGovern (Levittown, Pa.), both of whom signed with Quinnipiac during the early signing period as incoming freshmen for the Bobcats next season.
