HAMDEN, Conn. – For the third time this season, Quinnipiac softball freshman Courtney Solt (Boyertown, Pa.) takes home the NEC Rookie of the Week honors. Solt finished an impressive week that saw her tally 10 hits in six games to become the program's single-season hits record holder. She becomes just the second Bobcat ever to win three NEC Rookie of the Week titles as she joins Krista Seeman who accomplished the feat back in 2007.
Solt's third weekly honors comes after she batted .455 (10-for-21) with three triples, four RBIs, six runs scored and a pair of stolen bases for the Bobcats. She tallied at least one hit in each of Quinnipiac's six games on the week and recorded three multi-hit games, boosting her season total to 20. She went 3-for-5 with three runs scored against Manhattan last Thursday and had two hits in both ends of a doubleheader against Robert Morris on Saturday. On the final day of the regular season, Solt broke the Bobcats' single-season hits record that belonged to Kerri McMahon for 18 years. McMahon totaled 65 hits back in 1995 but that record fell on Sunday as Solt finished the day against St. Francis U with two hits total to push her 2013 total to 66 and ahead of the former Bobcats McMahon. Solt closed out the year after an incredible rookie campaign that had her ranked in the NEC Top-10 in hits, batting average (.376), runs (37), triples (five), total bases (85) and stolen bases (nine).
Solt and the Bobcats close out the 2013 season but will return along with 10 other returning letterwinners as Quinnipiac will look to make some noise in their first season in the MAAC Conference.
