HAMDEN, Conn. – Quinnipiac softball freshman outfielder Courtney Solt (Boyertown, Pa.) was named the Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday, March 4. The honor is the first for any Bobcat since Jordan Paolucci claimed her second such award on May 2, 2011.
Solt had herself a signature weekend for the Bobcats as she rode recorded at least one hit in all five games over the weekend at the USF Under Armour Invitational. The freshman posted a .476 batting average as she went 10-for-21 throughout the five-game non conference slate down in Clearwater, Fla. at the Eddie C. Moore Complex. She kickstarted her weekend with a 1-for-4 outing against Loyola (Chicago) and then followed with a career day in a win against Illinois-Chicago, going 3-for-4 with one double, one run, two RBI and one stolen base. Against Providence on Saturday, she went 2-for-3 with one RBI, one walk and two stolen bases. After tallying one hit against Loyola Marymount, Solt finished up with a 3-for-4 performance Sunday morning against Kent St. with the only run scored for the Bobcats.
Her defense out in left field also has been stellar as she played error-free ball manning the corner outfield position and Solt even flashed the arm strength with an assist in Quinnipiac's 7-3 win over Illinois-Chicago.
She is currently second on the team in batting average (.344) for the season and leads the team in hits (11), doubles (two), RBI (four) and stolen bases (three).
The Bobcats will return to action this weekend as they head back down to Fla. for the USF Under Armour Showcase for five games from March 8-10.
