RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The Quinnipiac University softball team dropped a non-conference game to Loyola Marymount, 3-0, in the first day of tournament action at the Amy S. Harrison Classic on Friday afternoon. With the loss, the Bobcats fall to 7-3 on the year.
Quinnipiac's Heather Schwartzburg (Mission Viejo, Calif.) earned her first loss of the season, placing the senior Bobcat at 4-1 on the year. Schwartzburg pitched all seven innings, allowing six hits and two earned runs. She also struck out six of the 30 batters she faced. Loyola Marymount's Dana Waldusky took the win as she recorded her first career no-hitter against the Bobcats, striking out five.
The Lions scored their first run in the top of the second inning as Kelly Sarginson homered to left field. LMU widened the gap, 2-0, when Sterling Shuster scored on a Quinnipiac error in the fourth inning. Later in the contest, Brittany Pereda singled to second base, driving in Sam Fischer in the sixth for the 3-0 victory.
The Bobcats return to action when they play a pair of games at the UC Riverside Tournament on Saturday, March 10.
