The Quinnipiac University softball team’s quest for its first NCAA Tournament bid came to a close on Saturday afternoon, as the #2 Bobcats fell short to #3 LIU Brooklyn, 10-5, in the Northeast Conference Tournament Finals at Robert Morris in Moon Township, Pa. With the loss, QU concludes its season with a 34-18 record, marking its second straight 30-win campaign and third straight with at least 25 wins.

Senior Heather Schwartzburg (Mission Viejo, Calif.) allowed just one run over seven innings on Friday afternoon, as the #2 seeded Quinnipiac University softball team survived an elimination game against #3 Monmouth at Robert Morris University in Moon Township, Pa. With the 3-1 victory, the Bobcats advance to face the top-seeded Colonials in another elimination game at 3:20 p.m.

Senior Ashley Heiberger (Sioux Falls, S.D.) lifted a sacrifice fly in the top of the 12th inning on Friday afternoon to send the #2 seeded Quinnipiac University softball team past #1 Robert Morris, 4-3, in a thrilling Northeast Conference Semifinal match-up in Moon Township, Pa. With the win, the Bobcats advance to the tournament finals tomorrow afternoon, taking on #3 LIU Brooklyn at 12:30 p.m. QU needs to defeat the Blackbirds twice in order to hoist the trophy at the end of the day.

Softball Competes At USF Under Armour Invitational This Weekend
The Quinnipiac University softball team (4-0, 0-0 NEC) travels to compete at the University of South Florida Under Armour Invitational this weekend. The Bobcats will play in five non-conference games during March 2-4. On Friday, Quinnipiac takes on Florida Gulf Coast at 4 p.m. and Bowling Green at 6:15. On Saturday, the Bobcats will play Miami (OH) at 11:30, followed by Bethune-Cookman at 2 p.m. QU will then face Western Michigan in its final game on Sunday at 9:30 a.m. The USF Tournament will be held at the Eddie C. Moore Complex in Clearwater, Florida.

The Bobcats take on the Jaspers after opening the season with four wins at the Longwood Spring Classic, while Manhattan begins its 2012 campaign in Wednesday’s two-game tilt. Quinnipiac University Softball Head Coach Germaine Fairchild has announced the signing of six players to National Letters of Intent for the 2012-13 academic year. Danielle Edmands (Northborough, Mass.), Nicole Gubellini (Salem, N.H.), Molly Jarrett (Northport, N.Y.), Sydney Robey (Glenmoore, Pa.), Courtney Solt (Bechtelsville, Pa.), and Noelle Wagner (Orange, Calif.) will join the Bobcats in the fall of 2012.

The Quinnipiac University softball program held its annual banquet on Saturday, Oct. 15 in honor of the 2010-11 season. Quinnipiac softball head coach Germaine Fairchild announced the 2011 season award winners at the banquet. Heather Schwartzburg (Mission Viejo, CA) was named the team's Most Valuable Player, Ashley Heiberger (Sioux Falls, SD) was selected Defensive Player of the Year, Jordan Paolucci (Lake Mary, FL) was named the Offensive Player of the Year, Lauren Salgado (Covina, CA) was chosen Most Improved Player of the Year, and Joelle Jacobsen (Flemington, NJ) received the Spirit of the Bobcat Award.
