HAMDEN, Conn. – Four members of the Quinnipiac University softball team were selected to the College Sports Madness 2012 All-Northeast Conference Preseason teams, as announced by the collegiate athletics website on Monday.
Senior Heather Schwartzburg (Mission Viejo, Calif.) was named Pitcher of the Year and received first-team honors, alongside fellow teammates, junior Jacquie Ristow (Seal Beach, Calif.) and sophomore Jordan Paolucci (Lake Mary, Fla.). Junior outfielder Lauren Salgado (Covina, Calif.) was named All-NEC second team in the website’s preseason poll.
Schwartzburg receives both honors after being named the 2011 NEC Pitcher of the Year. Last season, Schwartzburg also earned All-NEC first team and NFCA All-Region second team accolades. Paolucci led the Bobcats in 2011 with a team-high batting average of .351. After leading QU in runs (40), homeruns (15), RBI (36) and total bases (106) during her rookie campaign, Paolucci was named NEC Rookie of the Year, All-NEC first team and NEC All-Tournament. She also earned NFCA All-Region second team honors.
