HAMDEN, Conn. – Senior Mina Duffy (Piedmont, Calif.) of the Quinnipiac softball team was named College Sports Madness Northeast Conference Player of the Week, as announced by the website on Monday, April 2.
After Quinnipiac dropped a non-conference game to Massachusetts, 1-0, on March 28, Duffy led the Bobcats to a pair of NEC wins against Sacred Heart over the weekend. QU swept the league opponent with 12-7 and 5-4 victories in its 2012 home opener on Sunday, April 1. Duffy compiled the team’s second-best batting average (.444) across the three-game tilt, also batting 4-for-7 in the NEC doubleheader. The senior outfielder led the Bobcats with five RBI as she hit two homeruns against the Pioneers. Duffy also paced the team in slugging percentage (1.111), while posting a .444 on-base percentage.
Duffy was one of four Bobcats to help Quinnipiac match a NCAA record in consecutive homeruns as the team put together four straight homers in game one of the conference twinbill against Sacred Heart.
This marks Duffy’s second weekly accolade from College Sports Madness, previously earning the same award on February 28 during the 2012 season.
Currently, Duffy ranks first on the team in RBI (19) and homeruns (5), while standing second on the team in total bases (35), runs scored (11) and slugging percentage (.530).
Quinnipiac returns to action when it hosts Fairfield in a non-conference match-up on Wednesday, April 4. The game is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m. at the QU Softball Field in Hamden, Conn.
