Softball Falls At Fairfield, 6-1
FAIRFIELD, Conn. - The Quinnipiac University softball team lost to
Fairfield, 6-1, in a non-conference match-up held at the Alumni
Softball Field in Fairfield, Conn. on Thursday afternoon. With the
loss, the Bobcats drop to 19-15 on the year, while the Stags
improve to 14-13.
Quinnipiac was led by freshman Jordan
Paolucci (Lake Mary, Fla.), who went 2-for-3 and drove in the
Bobcats' only run. The Bobcats' Christy

Alba (Sylmar, Calif.), Kortney
Kesses (Woodbridge, Conn.) and Lauren
Salgado (Covina, Calif.) each contributed a hit against the
Stags, while second baseman Jacqueline
Ristow scored Quinnipiac's run. Freshman pitcher Katie
Alfiere (Beacon Falls, Conn.) took her third loss of the year,
as she pitched six innings for the Bobcats.
Fairfield took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Kristen
Filicia reached base as she was hit by a pitch. She then stole
second and scored on a Quinnipiac error. The Stags scored their
second run of the inning as Kristina Lingo was driven in by Alli
Wigand when she grounded out to Alba.
Fairfield increased their lead by four runs in the fourth inning,
as they scored two runs on two hits and one error. The Stags' Orr
scored the first run, followed by Carta, who scored an unearned run
after she singled and advanced to second on a Bobcats' error.
Quinnipiac scored its run in the top of the sixth to narrow the gap
by three runs, 4-1. After Alex
Murray (Milford, Mass.) grounded out to the third baseman,
Ristow was walked and advanced to second on an Alba double to left
field. Paolucci then singled to left field, driving in Ristow.
Fairfield went on to score two insurance runs in the bottom of the
sixth when Kimi Kurata hit a two-run homer to left field.
Quinnipiac (19-15, 3-1 NEC) returns to action, when it plays
back-to-back NEC doubleheaders against Wagner and Bryant on April 9
and April 10, respectively. The Bobcats will face the Wagner
Seahawks on Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Wagner Softball Field in
Staten Island, N.Y. Quinnipiac will then take on the Bryant
Bulldogs on Sunday at noon at the Bryant Softball Complex in
Smithfield, R.I.
