Quinnipiac Softball Splits Two Games In First Day Of Under Armour Invitational
CLEARWATER, Fla. - The Quinnipiac University softball team (5-5)
split its first two games of the Under Armour Invitational on
Friday, March 4. The Bobcats lost, 5-3, against Western Michigan
and beat Loyola Marymount, 5-1.
Western Michigan took a 4-0 lead, early in the game, scoring four
runs in the bottom of the first inning. The Bobcats scored its
first run of the game as Jacqueline
Ristow (Seal Beach, Calif.) doubled to right field, driving in
Salgado (Covina, Calif.) in the fifth inning. Quinnipiac's Julia
Sini (Elgin, Tex.) and Alex Alba (Sylmar, Calif.) each scored a
run in the sixth inning, narrowing the gap by one run, 4-3. Western
Michigan answered with a Barstad run in the bottom of the sixth to
hold a two-run advantage, 5-3.
Alfiere (Beacon Falls, Conn.) started and pitched four innings,
taking the loss against Western Michigan, while freshman pitcher Emily
O'Keefe (Southington, Conn.) appeared in two innings. Six
Bobcats each contributed a hit against Western Michigan, while Christy
Cabrera (Reno, Nev.) drove in two runs for Quinnipiac.
In the Bobcats second game of the day, junior pitcher Heather
Schwartzburg (Mission Viejo, Calif.) earned her second win of
the season against Loyola Marymount. Schwartzburg struck out nine
batters and allowed only one run and three hits in seven innings
for Quinnipiac. Alba and Mina
Duffy (Piedmont, Calif.) each picked up two RBI, while Jordan
Paolucci (Lake Mary, Fla.) scored two runs against the

Duffy singled to center field, driving in Alba and Paolucci, and
Salgado drove in Duffy on a single. Loyola Marymount went on to
score its only run of the game in the fourth inning as Harman
scored on a passed ball. Quinnipiac scored its last two runs in the
fifth inning to take a 5-3 lead over the Lions. Each run in the
bottom of the fifth was scored on a Loyola Marymount error.
Quinnipiac returns to action in the Under Armour Invitational on
Saturday, March 5 when it plays Central Michigan at 12:30 p.m. and
Florida International at 5:30 p.m.
