Softball Volunteers With Connecticut Special Olympics

Hamden, Conn. - The Quinnipiac University softball team recently volunteered with the Connecticut Special Olympics. The Bobcats helped run the East Haven site of the Connecticut Special Olympics Annual Softball Competition on Saturday, Sept. 11.

"The Connecticut Special Olympics softball competition was a unique experience for our student-athletes," said Head Coach Germaine Fairchild. "The perspective they gained from seeing the pure joy the participating athletes experience when they get to compete in the sport of softball is truly life-changing. Events such as these remind us to give thanks for our abilities by going about each of our daily tasks with joy, as the Special Olympics athletes do."

The Quinnipiac student-athletes played an important part of the event's success. The team kept score, announced the batters, ran the softball throw competition, coached the bases, presented medals and awards, umpired the games, and assisted the athletes throughout the 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. day of competition.
