HAMDEN, Conn. - Quinnipiac softball junior Heather Schwartzburg (Mission Viejo, Calif.) and freshman Jordan Paolucci (Lake Mary, Fla.) were named to the 2011 Louisville Slugger/National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division I All-Northeast Region Second Team, as announced by the NFCA on Thursday, May 19.
"We are so proud of Heather and Jordan's accomplishments during the 2011 season," said Quinnipiac Head Coach Germaine Fairchild. "It is a tremendous compliment from voting coaches within the region to have players named to the All-Region team, as it says not only that the players' abilities are admired, but that coaches also respect our program and our strength of schedule."
Schwartzburg was recently named the 2011 Northeast Conference Pitcher of the Year after an impressive junior year with the Bobcats. The right-handed hurler led Quinnipiac as she held a career-high 1.42 ERA across 39 appearances. She also broke the Quinnipiac and NEC single-season strikeout record with 296 strikeouts on the year and Quinnipiac's single-season wins record with 23 wins in 2011. Additionally, Schwartzburg received All-Conference First Team honors.
Paolucci was also named to the All-NEC First Team and was recognized by the NEC as its 2011 Rookie of the Year. Paolucci led the Bobcats with a .351 batting average, 40 runs scored and 36 RBI. The third baseman broke the Quinnipiac single-season home run record with 15 homers in her first year with the Bobcats. Paolucci was selected to the All-NEC Tournament team after leading Quinnipiac to an appearance in the NEC Championship game. Quinnipiac was eliminated from the 2011 NEC Tournament after the Championship game was suspended and canceled due to inclement weather. Sacred Heart was declared the 2011 NEC Champions based on its undefeated, 2-0 record, in tournament play.
