HAMDEN, Conn. - Quinnipiac softball freshman Jordan Paolucci (Lake Mary, Fla.) was named Akadema/Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday, May 2. The honor is Paolucci's second weekly accolade of the 2011 season.
Paolucci led the Bobcats with 19 total bases, a team-high five runs scored and eight RBI as she started in each of Quinnipiac's eight games last week. The rookie went 9-for-21 for a .429 batting average and posted a team-leading slugging percentage (.905) and on-base percentage (.586). Paolucci knocked out three home runs on the week, increasing her season total to 13 homers. The Lake Mary native launched a walk-off home run in the Bobcats' 3-2 win over Fairleigh Dickinson. She also hit a three-run homer against Saint Francis (Pa.) and a two-run home run against Stony Brook over the week. Paolucci currently leads Quinnipiac with a .324 batting average on the year, in runs (34) and RBI (32). She also leads all Bobcats in slugging percentage (.662) and on-base percentage (.477). In addition, the freshman outfielder has been successful on 9-of-10 steal attempts this season.
The freshman has continued to make an impact for the Bobcats from both outfield and infield positions. She was previously selected as the Akadema/NEC Rookie of the Week on April 11, 2011.
Quinnipiac returns to action when it hosts Fairfield on Thursday, May 5 at 3:30 p.m. for its final home game of the 2011 regular season. The Bobcats will then face Massachusetts in its final regular-season game on Sunday, May 8 at 1 p.m. at the UMass Softball Complex in Amherst, Mass.
