Scouting the Rockets
Toledo currently posts a 1-9 overall record this season,
most recently falling to Temple in the final day of the Under Armor
Invitational. The Rockets have played to several close games this
season, going into extra innings on three separate occasions.
Senior outfielder Mica Sanchez leads the team offensively, batting
a .355 through ten games with 11 hits and 10 RBI. Senior RHP Hannah
Rockhold has seen nine appearances from the circle for Toledo this
season, posting a 3.93 ERA with 16 strikeouts.
Magnificent Murray
Bobcats' sophomore Alex Murray (Milford, Mass.) continues
to lead the team offensively through the second weekend of play.
The second baseman batted .385 in the Under Armor Invitational,
tallying five hits and two walks. Murray also hit her fourth double
of the season and picked up her first stolen base of the 2010
season. The stolen base against Virginia Tech was the first of her
career.
Close Calls
Quinnipiac played to three close games in the Under Armor
Invitational, losing by a margin of two runs or less to South
Florida, Austin Peay and Virginia Tech. Sophomore RHP Heather
Schwartzburg (Mission Viejo, Calif.) was in the circle for all
three close games, pitching a total of 19.1 innings on the weekend.
Schwartzburg compiled a .093 ERA through the three days of play,
allowing ten hits and earning just two runs. The right-hander
struck out 23 batters in her three appearances, and held opposing
batters to a .154 average.
Salgado Scores!
Freshman outfielder Lauren Salgado (Covina, Calif.) scored
both the Bobcats' runs at the Under Armor Invitational in the games
against Temple and Virginia Tech. The quick freshman also stole two
bases in the Invitational, leading the team in that category with
three stolen bases this season. Salgado batted .231 on the weekend
for Quinnipiac, compiling three hits.
Double Threat
Quinnipiac freshman Alejandra Alba (Sylmar, Calif.) pulled
double-duty in the Under Armor Invitational, performing from the
plate and the circle. Alba started two games pitching for the
Bobcats, throwing 10.1 innings against Western Michigan and Temple.
The rookie RHP struck out eight batters on the weekend, holding
opposing batters to a .262 average. Alba also tallied two hits on
the weekend, including the first double of her collegiate
career.
Two-Hitters
Three other players picked up two hits on the weekend in
South Florida. Seniors Emily Bellush (Newton, Mass.) and Katie
Allendorfer (Glenside, Pa.) and freshman Jacqueline Ristow (Seal
Beach, Calif.) collected two singles in the three-day series.
