The Bulls scored the lone run of the game in the top of the first inning. Junior Tara Toscano sparked the offense when she singled through the left side with one out on the board. In the following play, sophomore Laura Fountain grounded out to first base, allowing Toscano to advance to second in scoring position. Senior Alison Savarese drove Toscano home in the next play when she doubled to left center to earn the 1-0 lead.
Murray went 3-for-3 with two singles and a double on the day, while freshman Lauren Salgado (Covina, Calif.) picked up the other hit for Quinnipiac in the game. The Bobcats saw three runners in scoring position in the game, but were unable to cross the plate.
Schwartzburg allowed South Florida just three hits through seven innings pitched. The sophomore struck out seven batters on the day. Bulls' sophomore Brittany Bowles pitched the first 5.2 innings against Quinnipiac, allowing three runs while striking out six. Senior Kristen Gordon finished the game for South Florida, earning the save with two strikeouts.
