"We are very proud of the many softball student-athletes who have been recognized by the NFCA for their academic achievements," said head coach Germaine Fairchild. "One of our program philosophies is that academic and athletic performances are positively correlated, and the six student-athletes receiving these awards exemplify this philosophy for our younger players."
To qualify for this award, student-athletes were required to earn a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.5 for both the fall and spring semesters in the 2008-09 academic year. During the 2009 season, Allendorfer compiled a 3.8 GPA in Public Relations, Bourdeau earned a 4.0 GPA in Biology, Bellush recorded a 3.86 GPA in Spanish, Casella compiled a 3.59 GPA in Marketing, Jacobsen earned a 3.77 GPA in biomedical sciences, and Wall recorded a 3.96 GPA in Mathematics.
The softball team will kick off their 2010 spring schedule on Feb. 20 when they travel to Farmville, Va. to play in the Longwood Lead Off Classic.
