Softball Hosts Alumni Game

HAMDEN, Conn. - The Quinnipiac University softball team hosted their annual alumni game on Oct. 10 at the Quinnipiac Softball Field. The Bobcats returned 20 alumni for the game and post-game barbeque. The current team defeated the alumni squad, 16-0, in seven innings of play.

Senior Emily Bellush (Newton, Mass.) started in the circle for the current team, while 2004 graduate Melissa Reynolds pitched for the alumni. After giving up six runs in three innings, sophomore Mina Duffy (Piedmont, Calif.) crossed over to relieve Reynolds, pitching the final four innings for the alumni.

Bellush and fellow senior Katie Allendorfer (Glenside, Pa.) highlighted the offense for the current team, as they each hit homeruns in the game. The team as a whole recorded 17 hits on the day for the 16 runs scored.

"The 2009 Softball Alumni Game and Barbeque was the best alumni event we have held to date," said head coach Germaine Fairchild. "The turnout was great, with over forty people attending, including children, significant others, and friends. The alumni competed well in the game, which was great for the current team to see, and it was a lot of fun for both teams. We look forward to next year's event, when our current senior class will be competing as alumni, as they have already vowed to win Alumni game 2010!"

The softball team will kick off their 2010 spring schedule on Feb. 20 when they travel to Farmville, Va. to play in the Longwood Lead Off Classic.
