      <description>Freshman utility player Alex Alba (Sylmar, Calif.) of the Quinnipiac University softball team has been name the Northeast Conference Rookie of the Year, as announced at the NEC Banquet this evening. Sophomore RHP Heather Schwartzburg (Mission Viejo, Calif.) was named one of two pitchers on the All-Conference First Team, while Alba and senior outfielder Heather Maffeo (Milton, Mass.) earned spots on the Second Team. This is the second consecutive season a member of the Bobcats earned the Rookie of the Year honors, as Schwartzburg collected the award last season.</description>

This is the first postseason appearance for the Bobcats since 2007 and they will face off against Monmouth University in the first round on Friday, May 14. The two teams are scheduled for a 12:15 p.m. start at FDU Softball Field. In their last contest, the Bobcats closed out the regular season with a doubleheader sweep of Fairleigh Dickinson on May 8.</description>

Alba's homerun was the only run of the first game, earning the Bobcats a 1-0 victory. The Colonials took game two by a score of 6-5. With the split, Quinnipiac's record now stands at 16-17 on the year with a 3-3 record in conference play. Robert Morris now holds a 15-13 overall record with a 5-2 mark in the NEC.</description>
