2013 NCAA Northeast Regional Men's Cross Country Results

BRONX, N.Y. – The Quinnipiac men's cross country team wrapped up their 2013 season with a 29th place finish, out of 37 teams, at the NCAA Northeast Regional event from Van Cortlandt Park. The Bobcats' All-MAAC performer in sophomore Brendan Copley (Colchester, Vt.) closed out his breakout season with a Top 100 finish to lead the way once again for Quinnipiac. The NCAA Regional event was won by Syracuse with 57 points while the Bobcats tallied 923, third-most among six MAAC competitors.

Racing in all eight of Quinnipiac's scheduled meets this season, Copley rounded the season with his eighth straight race where he was the fastest Bobcat. Copley took home a 100th place result to move up 32 spots from his position in the 2012 NCAA Regional event. He crossed the line with a time of 32:17.5 for a pace of 5:11 per mile. His time was nearly 40 seconds faster than last year's and was the 22nd fastest among all sophomore runners in today's meet.

One of the most impressive outings of the day for the Bobcats was the one had by sophomore Matt Mensher (Tolland, Conn.) who finished a career best second-fastest on the team. Mensher finished with a time of 33:33.9, good enough for a 182nd place finish, and set a nice mile pace at 5:23 to carry him to the best individual result of his career.

For the first time all season, junior Spencer Mannion (Brookfield, Conn.) slipped into third place on the Bobcats with his 205th place finish in today's event. It was the first time him and Copley did not finish first and second fastest on the team and the first time Mannion has been worse than second on the team since the NEC Championship on Oct. 27, 2012 (9 meets ago). Mannion clocked in with a time of 34:17.6 to complete his season.

Joining Mensher with a career day was freshman Kyle Liang (Norwich, Conn.) who finished a career best fourth-fastest on the team. Liang has improved throughout the majority of the season and started to see some of his best times towards the end of this season. His last meet of the year was good enough for a 219th place finish and a time of 34:43.1.

Rounding out of the scoring for the Bobcats was senior Jacob Cetera (Chicago, Ill.) who also wrapped up the last race of his Quinnipiac career. Finishing up his fifth year with the team, Cetera made one more lasting memory with a time of 35:07.7 and a 228nd place result.

Senior Ryan Wolff (Mount Holly, N.J.) and freshman Dylan Fearon (Tenafly, N.J.) also competed but finished outside the Top 5 for Quinnipiac. Wolff recorded a time of 35:26.5 while Fearon clocked in at 36:02.1 to round out the day for the Bobcats.

This concludes another successful season for the Bobcats in their first year in the MAAC. They landed one All-Conference runner in Copley and have superior depth returning in 2014 as they will lose Cetera and Wolff to graduation. With Mannion and Mensher returning as well as the group of three freshmen runners, the future is bright for the Quinnipiac squad.
