EDISON, N.J. – Quinnipiac men's cross country sophomore Brendan Copley (Colchester, Vt.) earned his second MAAC Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week award of the season, as announced by the league offic e on Tuesday, Oct. 16. Copley's second Runner of the Week honor places him in a tie with Manhattan's Mikael Rojeras for the most of any MAAC athlete this season.
Copley continued his strong running this season to lead the Bobcats to a 20th place result out of 41 teams on Saturday at the New England Championships. With the result, he is now five-for-five this season finishing as the Bobcats' top runner. He clocked in at 24:58 for a pace of 5:00 per mile. Racing in his first career New England Championship event from Franklin Park, Copley was able to find his way through a crowded field of 279 competitors to take the 20th place result. Even though he barely missed out on an All-New England honor, Copley was a star amongst the field and especially the sophomores as he finished with the third-fastest time among all sophomore competitors.
His triumph, combined with Quinnipiac women's cross country's freshman Niamh Ashe (East Islip, N.Y.), helped the Bobcats sweep both MAAC Cross Country weekly awards. This marks the first time the Bobcats have accomplished this feat and the second team to do so this season as Iona took home both MAAC Men's and Women's Runner of the Week on Sept. 24.
Quinnipiac will have one more tune up at the CCSU Mini Meet on Friday, Oct. 25 before the MAAC Championships commence on Nov. 1.
