HAMDEN, Conn. – Senior Rich Klauber (Thomaston, Conn.) of the Quinnipiac men's cross country team was named the Northeast Conference Athlete of the Week as announced by the league office on Tuesday, Oct. 9. For Klauber, the Athlete of the Week honor is his third of the 2012 season, more than any other runner in the NEC. It also marked his second consecutive selection and the fifth of his career.
Klauber posted an incredible 8th-place showing in a field that featured a season-high 261 runners at the New England Championships at Stanley Park in Westfield, Mass. on Sunday. Quinnipiac's Male Athlete of the Month for September continued his impressive season with another top-10 finish, his third of the year. His finishing time of 24:35.80 in the 8k event also bests his previous personal-best time of 25:23 established just a week ago at the Lehigh Paul Short Run. He also placed the highest of all NEC competitors as Central Connecticut State's Colby Delbene was the next closest coming in 13th overall. Klauber also spearheaded the Bobcat's major improvement from last season's event as the team placed 23rd overall (out of 37 teams) in 2012, a year removed from placing 33rd in the 2011 New England Championships.
The Quinnipiac men's cross country team hits the road for the Princeton University Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 13 with the men's event beginning at 11:15 a.m.
