HAMDEN, Conn. The Quinnipiac University men's track team was ranked fifth in the Northeast Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll. Monmouth was tabbed first by the coaches with six first-place votes, while Saint Francis (Pa.) received two and Sacred Heart finished with three.
The Bobcats opened their season on Saturday at the Monmouth University Opener in West Long Branch, N.J. Highlighting the meet for Quinnipiac were sophomores John Greenlaw (Hampstead, N.H.) and Taylor Roberts (Newburyport, Mass.). Both runners qualified for the New England Championships at UMass on May 8 in the 10,000-meter race as Greenlaw finished fourth in 33:53.35, while Roberts finished fifth in a personal-best time of 33:53.79.
Quinnipiac also received a seventh-place finish from freshman Andrew Sullivan (Ellington, Conn.) in the 5000 meters. The Bobcats' 4x400-meter relay team finished fourth amongst Division I teams with a time of 3:36.65. Freshmen John Healy (Middletown, N.J.) and Dan Roark (Dracut, Mass.), sophomore Andrew Mayernick (Staatsburg, N.Y.) and senior Chris Foster (Mystic, Conn.) comprised the team at the season's first competition.
The Bobcats return to action on Wednesday, April 8, when they host Iona, Stony Brook and Providence at the QU Outdoor Track & Field Classic. The meet is set to begin at 11:30 from Yale's Dwyer Track.
