WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. The Quinnipiac University men's outdoor track team began its 2009 campaign at the Monmouth Season Opener. Sophomores John Greenlaw (Hampstead, N.H.) and Taylor Roberts (Newburyport, Mass.) finished fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 10,000-meter race with times that qualified both for the New England Championships. Greenlaw crossed the line in 33:53.35 with Roberts close behind with a personal-best time 33:53.79.
Freshman Andrew Sullivan (Ellington, Conn.) finished seventh overall in the 5000-meter race. Sullivan crossed the line in 15:27.19. Freshman John Healy (Middletown, N.J.) placed ninth in the 1500-meter race with a time of 4:11.50.
Quinnipiac's 4x400-meter relay team placed fourth amongst Division I teams with a time of 3:36.65. The four runners making up the team for the Bobcats were Healy, freshman Dan Roark (Dracut, Mass.), sophomore Andrew Mayernick (Staatsburg, N.Y.) and senior Chris Foster (Mystic, Conn.).
"This was a great start for our team," said Head Coach Shawn Green. "We haven't done the speed work we need to run fast times yet, but that will come soon."
Quinnipiac returns to action Wednesday, April 8, when they host the Quinnipiac Outdoor Track & Field Classic.
