HAMDEN, Conn. The Quinnipiac University men's cross country team runs in the NCAA Regionals at Van Cortland Park in the Bronx, N.Y., on Saturday Nov. 15 at 11:45 a.m.. The Bobcats will run with their top seven runners from a team that claimed its third consecutive Northeast Conference Championship on Nov. 1 at Holmdel Park, N.J.
"We are excited to put our seven runners on the line," said Coach Shawn Green. "The past two years we have lost guys to non-running related injuries heading into these Regionals. This year we are ready to put together a good run and finish where we belong."
Rich Klauber (Thomaston, Conn.), named the NEC Outstanding Performer of the Year after finishing first at the NEC Championships, anchors the Bobcats as they seek one of two automatic bids to the NCAA Championship meet at stake at the Van Cortland Park course. At the conference meet, his time of 26:11 was good for first overall and paced the Bobcats to 52 team points and another NEC Championship.
Dan Roark (Dracut, Mass.), John Greenlaw (Hampstead, N.H.) and Tyler Dinnan (Juneau, Alaska) will all be running in their first meet since being named to the all-conference team at the NEC Championships. Greenlaw, Roark and Dinnan crossed the line in 9th, 11th and 12th places, respectively. All three runners finished within three seconds of each other with times of 27:11, 27:12 and 27:13.
Addison Pelerano (Surry, Maine.), Jack McDonald (Cheshire, Conn.) and Tyler Roberts (Newburyport, Mass.) round out the seven Bobcats competing. Nick Rezendes (Ledyard, Conn.) will serve as the Quinnipiac alternate.
The Bobcats competed at Van Cortland Park on Sept. 6, finishing the Fordham Fiasco in second place with 96 points. Saturday's race will be the first time this season the Bobcats compete on a 10K course. The top two teams will automatically qualify for the NCAA Championships at Terra Haute, Ind. The top four individual runners from non-qualifying teams will also be eligible to run in Nationals.
