Men's Cross Country Named NEC Preseason Favorite

HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac University men's cross country team was picked first in the 2008 Northeast Conference Preseason Coaches Poll, the conference office today announced. The Bobcats claimed eight of the eleven first-place votes for the upcoming season. The Bobcats are seeking their third straight men's cross country conference championship in 2008.

Four-time NEC Coach of the Year Ed O'Conner will lead a Bobcats team that will rely on a mix of upperclassman and younger runners to capture their third NEC crown. Seniors Dan Martin (Commack, N.Y.) and Nick Rezendes (Ledyard, Conn.) return to help guide the Bobcats in 2008 after finishing their junior seasons 16th and 12th, respectively, at the NEC Championships last fall.

Tyler Dinnan (Juneau, Alaska) finished the 2007 season as a member of the All-Conference Team after finishing ninth at the NEC Championships with a time of 26:54.20 before moving on to the NCAA Division I Regional. He was the Bobcats' top runner in that meet, helping the Bobcats to a strong showing in their final event of the season.

Quinnipiac begins their season on Friday, August 29, when they travel to Stony Brook, N.Y. for the Stony Brook Invitational. The men's meet begins at 3 p.m.
