Quinnipiac Athletics' 2013-14 Student-Athletes Complete Top Academic Year In Program History
Quinnipiac University Director of Athletics & Recreation Jack McDonald has announced all-time highs in several academic areas for the 2013-14 season. Quinnipiac’s 414 student-athletes posted a program best 3.293 cumulative grade-point-average, while all but one of Quinnipiac’s 21 varsity teams posted a team GPA of 3.0 or higher.

The schedule for Wednesday, tennis wise, did not go as planned for the men’s team. We woke up at 7 a.m. to get ready for an early practice, however, as we were going to leave for practice it started to downpour. Coach Pappas said we would wait until the rain passed, so we could do fitness and start preparing for Valparaiso. At 11 a.m. we had our fitness session and we were ready to play tennis. Unfortunately, it started to rain again. We are going into tomorrow’s match without any practice, but it can possibly be a good thing because it gave us a chance to get some rest after Monday and Tuesday’s matches.

Men’s Tennis Drops 2014 Opener at Brown, 5-2
Junior Eric Ambrosio (Lloyd Harbor, N.Y.) and freshman Kei Ezaka (Ojai, Calif.) each added wins to their season totals on Sunday, but the Quinnipiac men’s tennis team ran into a tough Brown squad as the Bears spoiled the Bobcats’ 2014 opener with a 5-2 win inside the Pizzitola Center in Providence. The Bears won two doubles matches and added four singles wins to defeat the Bobcats in the non-conference clash.

A year ago around this time, the Quinnipiac University men’s tennis team was in great spirits after winning four of the eight singles flights at the UConn Invitational. On Friday afternoon, the Bobcats returned to their instate rivals’ tournament and picked up right where they left off last year. Quinnipiac advanced six players into the semifinals with several strong individual showings on the first day of the three-day invite.

Sophomore Eric Ambrosio (Lloyd Harbor, N.Y.) picked up a pair of victories to lead the way for the Bobcats on the afternoon. Men's Tennis Drops Non-Conference Match At Brown, 7-0
The Quinnipiac University men’s tennis team was defeated by Brown University, 7-0, on Sunday afternoon in Providence, R.I. Following a strong showing against the Bulldogs on Saturday night, the Bobcats couldn’t overcome the quick start from the hosting Bears en route their fourth loss of the season. Brown remained perfect with the triumph, improving to 6-0 on the campaign.

Men's Tennis Cruises Past Bryant In Doubles; Falls To Binghamton
The Quinnipiac University men’s tennis team squared off against Binghamton University and Bryant on Saturday night, as the Bobcats took on the Bearcats and Bulldogs at a neutral site in non-conference showdowns. Playing at Brown University in Providence, Binghamton defeated QU, 7-0, in the 5:30 p.m. match, which was followed by a doubles-only encounter with the NEC foe.

Senior James Kwei (Dedham, Mass.) and junior Andrew Weeden (Martinsville, N.J.) of the Quinnipiac University men's tennis team defeated their lone opponents on Friday afternoon to advance to the Round of 16 at the Connecticut State Championships. In addition, the tandem of Weeden and freshman Eric Ambrosio (Lloyd Harbor, N.Y.) also moved on in the doubles' bracket, all taking place on the campus of Yale University at the Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center.

Men's Tennis Posts 17-7 Mark At UConn Invitational
The Quinnipiac men’s tennis team posted a 17-7 mark on the final day of the University of Connecticut Invitational in Storrs, Conn. Sophomore Micah Bailey (Miami, Fla.) and J.C. Petrini (Stanford, Conn.) posted 2-0 marks in singles play, while also combining for a 2-0 mark in doubles play. As a team, Quinnipiac was 12-4 in singles play, and 5-3 in doubles play.

The Quinnipiac men’s tennis team went 12-6 at the Fairfield Doubles Tournament this past weekend. Three of the four Bobcat tandems advanced to their respective flights’ semifinals, while two of those three moved onto the finals. At last year’s event, two teams moved to the semifinals, with neither advancing.

James Kwei (Dedham, Mass.) clinched the third-seeded Quinnipiac University men's tennis team's 4-2 victory against second-seeded Fairleigh Dickinson with the 100th victory of his collegiate career in the Northeast Conference Tournament Semifinals. The Bobcats took the doubles point and wins at Nos. 1, 3 and 6 singles to punch their ticket to the NEC Tournament Championship match against intrastate rival Sacred Heart.

Andrew Weeden (Martinsville, N.J.) and James Kwei (Dedham, Mass.) earned double wins as the third-seeded Quinnipiac University men's tennis team defeated No. 6 Mount St. Mary's, 4-0, Friday afternoon in the Northeast Conference Tournament Quarterfinals at Mercer County Park. With the win, the Bobcats (7-12, 2-3 NEC) move on to the NEC Semifinals, where they'll meet second-seeded Fairleigh Dickinson for the second straight year. First serve is slated for Saturday after 11:30 a.m. The Mount ends its season at 7-12 (1-4 NEC).

Chris Nelson (Scituate, Mass.) pulled out a three-set victory at No. 5 singles to clinch the Quinnipiac University men's tennis team's dramatic come-from-behind 4-3 victory at Monmouth Saturday afternoon. The Bobcats trailed 3-0, having lost the doubles point and straight-sets decisions at Nos. 3 and 4 singles. But the Bobcats got four wins in the remaining four flights, including three three-set victories, to earn the win. Quinnipiac is now 6-12 (1-3 NEC), while the Hawks fall to 6-10 (0-3 NEC).

Weeden, Morgenstern Honored With NEC Weekly Awards
Quinnipiac University sophomore men's tennis player Andrew Weeden (Martinsville, N.J.) and freshman Corey Morgenstern (Old Bethpage, N.Y.) have been named the Northeast Conference Men's Tennis Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively, the league office today announced. The award is the first of the year for both players, and the second of Weeden's career. Weeden and Morgenstern were both double winners as the Bobcats swept the University of Hartford on Sunday.
